Ideological confrontation among the 2006 contenders, & the so-called polarization in the campaign were two widely commented features of the 2006 campaign & election. This article suggests that ideological views had some impact on the electoral choice, particularly through the influence of the polarized character of the campaign. I use two measures of the ideological views, an objective one (opinion-based placement on a spatial scale) & a subjective measure (self-placement on that scale) to test this hypothesis. The empirical evidence shows that the correct location of the candidates had different effects on the contenders. Locating Lopez Obrador as a left-wing candidate resulted in a lower probability of voting for him, whereas the correct location of Felipe Calderon increased the probability of casting a vote favorable to him. Research on public opinion has found that respondents to survey questions lack true attitudes towards different economic and moral issues. Given the latter, these respondents do not use their stance towards these issues to decide for which party or candidate to vote for. One of the main reasons for these dismal findings lies on the existence of measurement error. The paper presents a technique that corrects for measurement error and tests the importance of issues stances in the vote choice of the Mexican electorate during the 2006 Presidential Election. The paper also analyzes the significance of a "perceived issue space" and demonstrates that this concept is important to understand which particular issue stances matter and which ones do not in a voting decision. Electoral systems that include many constituencies often cause significant mismatch between votes and seats totals received by political parties. Such imbalances can be corrected by a distribution of "compensatory" seats. The electoral system for the Parliament of Sweden is one of those used to correct misalignments using compensatory seats. This paper analyzes the Swedish electoral system and suggests two modifications to improve it. The first is to change the electoral barrier to a more balanced with medium - small parties. The second suggestion proposes to implement a deal to distribute the seats among the electoral parties, because that way you avoid discrepancies which currently arise with respect to their sizes. The proposed amendment applies to the 2010 elections in Sweden. Finally, we analyze the adaptation of the Swedish electoral system to elect the Congress of Deputies of Spain.

; Legislation and the recommendations at the highest authorities protect the right of minors (in Spain children under eighteen) to their own image and condemn any violation of this fundamental right (the Spanish Constitution, UNO, UNICEF). Revered institutions, such as the Ombudsman or the public prosecutor's office in Spain, follow these dictates. Journalistic codes of ethics, whether international or of professional bodies or trade unions, provide reporters with guidelines for the proper treatment in the news of photographic material showing minors. Yet at the same time the widespread diffusion in the Spanish and international press of images in which minors appear next to statesmen and leaders or are seen participating in events of an unequivocally political or ideological nature (electoral campaigns, voting at elections, ceremonies to mark the assumption of office, demonstrations and marches) is infamous. Although sometimes these minors are the children of the newsworthy individual or are related to that person, in the majority of cases they are simply anonymous infants, children or adolescents. Their presence, far from being supplementary or circumstantial, responds to carefully planned strategies of political marketing or the opportunistic exploitation of unforeseen events. Either way, they are instances of the undeniable manipulation of news information against the public interest, in which the public themselves are, unfortunately, complicit along with journalists.
