AbstractThis article explores new patterns of interaction in foreign affairs among European Union (EU) Member States post‐Lisbon, which have increased reliance on horizontal and informal practices. It argues that cross‐loading among Member States outside EU institutions has moved centre stage and contributed to smaller groups of like‐minded Member States working together. This shift challenges much of our understanding of Europeanization, which is based on vertical forms of uploading and downloading. We illustrate these dynamics using the case of Sweden's recognition of Palestine in October 2014. While this seemed to break away from the established EU consensus, Sweden's decision aimed at leading the way and imparting momentum, especially within the like‐minded group of EU countries. Rather than being an example of de‐Europeanization, this case shows how Member States can seek new ways of exerting influence in the post‐Lisbon environment.

Performance measures often fail to indicate the amount of effort expended by an operator in reaching various levels of task performance. Secondary or loading task techniques have been developed to overcome this problem. However, with the loading task technique, a problem of interpretation arises when both primary and secondary task measures vary with operator performance. The cross-adaptive operator loading technique, which automatically adjusts the difficulty level of the loading task on the basis of primary task performance, is suggested as a solution to this problem. Data are presented which demonstrate that the cross-adaptive technique effectively standardizes scores on the primary task while casting all the variance in performance to the loading task scores. The cross-adaptive secondary scores thereby become a single unambiguous and sensitive index of effort expended to reach a pre-established level of task performance. Procedures for the implementation of the cross-adaptive techniques are discussed and guidelines for its use are suggested.

The purpose of this paper is: (1) To review the rationale of measuring operator workload in terms of auxiliary, or secondary task performance scores; (2) To summarize the important characteristics of suitable loading tasks; (3) To describe several loading tasks which have been used or which are potentially useful; and(4) To suggest the development of a set of standardized tasks which would be useful in obtaining more nearly comparable measures over a wide range of primary tasks.

Background: Dental implant therapy is still considered an evolving field in Nepal, with most dentists favoring implant placement following the delayed loading protocol (>3 months) even in the rehabilitation of missing anterior teeth. There is need to understand the clinical difference between immediate and delayed loading protocols of the dental implants. With advent of immediate loading protocol of dental implants, instant rehabilitation in addition to better esthetics and self-confidence can be obtained. Aims and Objectives:This study aims to evaluate the knowledge and attitude of general dentist towards immediate loading protocol of dental implants. Materials and Methods: A descriptive, cross sectional survey was conducted among Nepalese general dentists who have entered their clinical practice in private or government hospital regardless of their years of experience. A self-administered questionnaire adapted from some previous studies was framed and distributed with the primary objective to determine their knowledge and attitude towards immediate loading protocols of dental implants. Data collected were analyzed using the Statistical Packages for the Social Sciences version 22 (IBM Corp, Armonk, NY, USA). Results: Among the 250 participants included in this study, 94.8% of the respondents completely filled the questionnaire. Nearly 46.4% of participants had good knowledge on the procedure and advantages offered by the immediately loaded dental implants with provisional restorations, whereas 83.1% had negative reservations toward implant placement using the protocol. In addition, this study found a statistically significant association (p<0.05) between the knowledge and attitude of dental practitioners regarding the protocol. Conclusion: Although dental implants have changed the outlook of dentistry in the past few decades, there is slightly poor knowledge and significant negative attitude of dentists toward the immediate implant loading protocol. The general dentist are expected to increase their awareness about immediate loading with subsequent training on its use and viability so that proper information can be disseminated to the patients. This will help to increase the practice of immediate implant in indicated cases by implantologist with further benefit to patient's time and esthetics.
