The debates about the institutionalization of Cultural Studies and their political, ethical and epistemological dimensions were particularly important during the 1990s, when the field was undergoing a major transnational expansion encouraged by universities and publishers from England and the United States, which increasingly involved colleagues and institutions from various European, Asian and Latin American countries. Debates were often associated with the diversity of genealogies and intellectual traditions at play. Leaving aside the differences between those diverse intellectual traditions, this text focuses on some political, ethical, and epistemological dimensions of doing cultural studies beyond the academy, or inside and outside academia.

This text aims to discuss the so-called internationalization of cultural studies from two versions: the Latin American and the African ones. The originality of the contribution is in the presentation of the African current, little discussed in Brazilian and Latin American literature. We describe the political situation in which Latin American and African cultural studies develop, the institutional context, and present the main points that characterize these versions. We end by investing our considerations drawing approaches between them.
This article discusses the conflicting but potent (dis)encounters among the polymorphic fields of Environmental Education and Cultural Studies. It shows that much research from this articulation has been dedicated to printing erasures in discourses circulating in culture about nature and the environment. But what about when deconstructing is not enough? Recent debates about the environmental crisis, the Anthropocene, climate change and its social developments bring the need for new questions about the connections between culture and environment. Finally, it questions whether the political bias that has marked cultural studies since its emergence may contribute to the search for new radicalisms in Environmental Education.
The essay argues that the various new imaginaries of the connected, creative, autonomous, coding, motivated and making digital learner have their roots in diverse and older visions of a different kind education system (especially the craft learner working in communities of practice) than that promulgated by the human-capital inspired neoliberal governmentalised States in the world today. Tracing the histories of the older imaginaries in a cultural history of autodidacticism I examine how they become incorporated by, and thus recalibrate competing visions of the "new learner of tomorrow".
; Through the Latin saying Hic rhodus hic saltus, mentioned in the preface of his Philosophy of Right, Hegel intended to emphasise that it is Philosophy's duty to study what is real, rather than what ought to be. During the 60's of the 20th century, what was real was, as far as British Cultural Studies were concerned, the cultural revolution ongoing since the end of the II World War, which made critical the study of such issues as the relationship between culture and power, popular culture and mass culture, cultural homogeneity and cultural diversity. The considerations on these issues produced by cultural studies' authors – British and otherwise – remain crucial today, perhaps more so than ever. Setting the work carried through by cultural studies in the domain of culture, this paper aims to reflect upon the condition of a democracy that respects plurality and cultural differences, not only at national state level – presently undergoing deep changes – but also at a global level. In order to do so, we will somewhat anachronistically move beyond Hegel and his tethering to the real by returning to Kant and his ideal for a cosmopolitan society.

This article presents an investigation of narratives by deaf authors intended to an audience of young people and adults, which circulate in Brazil through books written in Portuguese. Considering the study of ten books (MÜLLER, 2012) of different genres, which have in common the constitution of a biographical space, our aim is to develop a discursive and documental analysis, in order to answer how and what cultural deaf marks are produced by these authors in their narratives. The investigation of the empirical material, which deals with difficulties experienced which are also expressed in writing, allows making evident the main deaf cultural marks: the narrative of experience of the self, and deaf identity as difference. It is worth stressing that narrating in a second language, in this case, Portuguese, used by deaf users of Língua Brasileira de Sinais (LIBRAS - Brazilian Sign Language), allows translating the narratives into other cultures, legitimating the deaf discourse and increasing the potential of the deaf culture through the visibility and cultural diffusion allowed by these works. The books, here understood also as cultural artifacts, are a resource in a territory of political-pedagogical claims and negotiations. In connection with Cultural Studies in Education and with Deaf Studies, the present work continues and consolidates studies in deaf culture and education; it also problematizes power relations involved in the construction of meanings, particularly in the field of education, here understood as a process of conduction of subjects' social and individual life. This investigation is part of the studies conducted within the project Produção, Circulação e Consumo da Cultura Surda Brasileira Production, Circulation, and Consumption of Brazilan Deaf Culture.
Toponymy is the discipline that studies the place names, or the names of places and is linked to lexicology, the science that can be defined as the scientific study of the lexicon. The aim of this study is to identify the role of culture and identity in the naming process places. We will support in addressing the Cultural Geography and Humanistic to understand, in more depth, the conceptual notion of place. The appointment of the places is directly related to the modus vivendi of human groups, and cultural factors and identity are essential in this process. As theoretical-methodological course, we will use the authors: Dick (1990, 1990a),Andradee Bastiane (2012), Holzer (2003) e Tuan (1979, 2012).
; This article firstly addresses Stuart Hall's account of the contributions of feminism to the formation of cultural studies. Secondly, it deals with the development of feminist criticism in the context of cultural studies, especially in England. Following this line, it retrieves Hall's ideas on the problematic of identity(ies). This dimension of his work is the third approach to be explored, a subject also relevant in feminist theoretical production. The paper additionally points out matches and mismatches of such developments in the Brazilian context. Finally, it concludes that the theme deserves in-depth analysis, especially as the topic of identity plays a central role in current political practice and feminist theory.
