The increasing popularity of programs promoting aktywność (activity) in old age in contemporary Poland is part of regional and global attempts to encourage health and economic productivity in old age. In order to understand this interest in aktywność in old age, such practices must be seen within broader sociocultural and political-economic contexts. This drive for aktywność cannot be fully explained without understanding its status as an unquestioned moral good in opposition to illness, disability, and frailty in old age. Seeking commonalities across such seemingly opposite experiences can reduce marginalization in old age. Side-stepping binary constructions of health and illness in old age creates a more holistic perspective that demonstrates how older Poles in a range of contexts create moral lives. ; Rosnąca w Polsce popularność i szerzenie się programów promujących aktywną starość stanowi część lokalnych i globalnych działań na rzecz utrzymania zdrowia i produktywności ekonomicznej starszych osób. Aby lepiej zrozumieć zainteresowanie aktywnością w starszym wieku, należy rozpatrywać te praktyki w szerszym społeczno-kulturowym i polityczno-ekonomicznym kontekście. Wzmożonego dążenia do aktywności nie sposób dogłębnie pojąć, jeśli nie uwzględni się tego, że aktywność stała się niekwestionowanym dobrem moralnym stanowiącym przeciwieństwo choroby, niepełnosprawności i zniedołężnienia. Wskazując, że te pozornie przeciwne doświadczenia łączy faktycznie wiele podobieństw, można przeciwdziałać marginalizacji starszych osób, a odrzucając binarne konstrukcje zdrowia i choroby w odniesieniu do osób w starszym wieku – zastosować bardziej holistyczną perspektywę umożliwiającą zrozumienie, jak starsi ludzie w Polsce kreują sobie w różnorodnych kontekstach moralne życie.

Spatial and social mobility in an increasingly globalized world is associated with new challenges for social sciences, including political science. This also applies to methods and methodology. The article aims to reveal the cognitive potential that lies in the use of multi–sited ethnography for research on politics and on the study of political behaviors (das Politische). The utility of this approach is illustrated on the basis of the research on social and spatial mobility of small town residents conducted with the use of this method.

The book analyses issues associated with the contemporary and memory in the Polish-German borderlands a complex, multidimensional cultural and geographic area. The first section of the book, which focuses on contemporary issues, is divided into three parts: namely, a theoretical body, records of conversations with the inhabitants of the borderlands who are engaged in social activities, and records of workshops and conversations that brought together teenage inhabitants of the borderlands. Close cooperation with the inhabitants of two borderland towns resulted in several interesting perspectives on the borderlands, which are seen as a physical space, as well as a mental, intimate, close, and sometimes frustrating space subject to micro- and macro-scale transformations. In this book, the borderlands are viewed from these two perspectives. The micro-scale, is marked out by the individual experience of the inhabitants of the borderlands, and the macro-scale by the institutional framework established for the purpose of constructing an integrated community on the border.--

According to the author, Cultural Linguistics (necessarily capitalised) is a multidisciplinary area of research on the relationhsip between language, culture, and cognition. Following Palmer, the author locates Cultural Linguistics in the vicinity of cognitive linguistics (with its image schemas, conceptual metaphors, and cognitive structures) and linguistic anthropology (which includes Boasian linguistics, ethnosemantics, and ethnography of speaking). The common platform for Cultural Linguistics, linguistic anthropology, and cognitive linguistics is an exploration of cultural models, which belong to the broader category of cultural conceptualisations. Recently Cultural Linguistics has incorporated insights from such areas as complexity theory or the notion of distributed cognition, enriching its own understanding of cultural cognition. Three areas of application of Cultural Linguistics are discussed: investigation of world Englishes, diagnosing causes of misunderstandings in intercultural communication, and identifiying cases of linguistic manipulation in the use of metaphors in political discourse. ; Lingwistyka kulturowa (ang. Za Palmerem autor sytuuje lingwistykę kulturową w bliskości lingwistyki kognitywnej (która operuje pojęciami schematów wyobrażeniowych, metafor pojęciowych i struktur poznawczych) i antropologii lingwistycznej (w ramach której mieści się lingwistyka w stylu Franza Boasa, etnosemantyka i etnografia mówienia). Wspólną płaszczyznę zainteresowań lingwistyki kulturowej, antropologii lingwistycznej i lingwistyki kognitywnej tworzą modele kulturowe przynależne do szerszej kategorii konceptualizacji kulturowych. Ostatnio lingwistyka kulturowa korzysta z nowych podejść badawczych, takich jak teoria systemów złożonych lub koncepcja poznania rozproszonego i wzbogaca swoje rozumienie poznania kulturowego. Autor w kolejności omawia trzy obszary zastosowań lingwistyki kulturowej: do badania odmian angielszczyzny, do diagnozowania przyczyn nieporozumień w komunikacji międzykulturowej, do ujawniania manipulacji językowej w sposobie posługiwania się metaforami w dyskursie politycznym.
