Der Beitrag beschäftigt sich mit Funktionen nichtstaatlicher Organisationen im Gesundheitsbereich. Gefragt wird nach Interaktionsmustern in der Architektur von Global Health Governance und nach der Bedeutung der Handlungsorientierungen Konflikt und Kooperation für die Interaktion der Akteure. Hierzu wird zunächst der Kontext von Globalisierung und Global Governance skizziert und ein Überblick über Begriff, Anzahl und Finanzierung nichtstaatlicher Organisationen gegeben. Anschließend werden die Spezifika des Gesundheitsbereichs dargestellt und die Interaktionsformen und Funktionen von nichtstaatlichen Organisationen im Rahmen von Global Health Governance erläutert. Der Zusammenhang der unterschiedlichen Funktionen von nichtstaatlichen Organisationen mit konfliktiven bzw. kooperativen Mustern der Interaktion mit anderen Akteuren wird anhand von drei Fallbeispielen untersucht. Dabei geht es um den Zugang zu preiswerten Medikamenten, die Rolle von nichtstaatlichen Organisationen als Vertragspartnern im Gesundheitssystem und um Self-Empowerment im Bereich HIV/AIDS. Die Fallbeispiele verdeutlichen die bedeutende Rolle nichtstaatlicher Organisationen im Gesundheitsbereich sowohl in politischer als auch in operativer Hinsicht. (ICE2)
