Political psychologists similarly investigate divergent national self-conceptions as well as the individual cognitive and emotional propensities that shape ideology and policy. Given their mutual interest in human subjectivity and identity politics, a dialogue and synthesis between constructivism and political psychology is long overdue. Ce travail de recherche rassemble différentes versions de l'histoire du Burundi selon les personnes issues de trois groupes ethniques burundais et les étrangers. L'auteure rappelle que les massacres burundais ne sont pas toujours interethniques, ils sont aussi intra-ethniques. En exposant les conflits entre les membres du même groupe ethnique, l'auteure sort du binaire ethnique : Tutsi contre Hutu et Hutu contre Tutsi. En effet, son approche résume bien l'idée selon laquelle "une ethnie n'est jamais homogène, non-conflictuelle." (Régis, 1992) et montre également que l'ethnie en soi n'est pas un problème, elle le devient quand elle est instrumentalisée pour des fins politiques et économiques. Quoi faire pour la réconciliation du peuple burundais? Il faut "Établir la vérité [..]; rétablir les victimes dans leurs droits ; amener les présumés auteurs à reconnaître leurs responsabilités devant le peuple et à demander pardon ; mettre en place des mécanismes qui garantissent la non-répétition des crimes rétablir les relations comme elles étaient avant les conflits."
