O artigo argumenta que há, em Marx, uma diferenciação da função socialdo proletariado e dos outros assalariados fundada na distinta inserçãonaestrutura produtiva de cada classe social. Between the late 1940s and independence in 1975, rural Mozambican women migrated to the capital, Lourenco Marques, to find employment in the cashew shelling industry. This book tells the labour and social history of what became Mozambique's most important late colonial era industry through the oral history and songs of three generations of the workforce. In the 1950s Jiva Jamal Tharani recruited a largely female labour force and inaugurated industrial cashew shelling in the Chamanculo neighbourhood. Seasonal cashew brews had long been an essential component of the region's household, gift and informal economies, but by the 1970s cashew exports comprised the largest share of the colony's foreign exchange earnings. This book demonstrates that Mozambique's cashew economy depended fundamentally on women's work and should be understood as "whole cloth"

Wages, productivity and profits in the Brazilian manufacturing industry, 1945-1978. This article investigates the distribution between profits and wages in Brazil's manufacturing industry from 1945 to 1978. First, the article provides yearly series of average real wages and labour productivity, from which labour unit costs and the distribution between profits and wages in the manufacturing industry are estimated. Second, the article addresses the behaviour of wages, labour productivity and industrial income distribution in the context of variable economic, political and institutional conditions which prevailed in post-war Brazil. The results of the quantitative analysis allow us to assess both the trends and the yearly behaviour of the manufacturing income distribution during a key period of the Brazilian economic history. Background: In a society increasingly marked by the logic of contemporary capitalism, education becomes an instrument for the reproduction of alienated labour forces. Objectives: To provide an overview of the characteristics of subjectivity and attitudes of the postmodern subject based on the studies of Fredric Jameson and David Harvey; unveiling the development of techniques for producing more effective ways of subjecting the company culture to neoliberal rationality described by Pierre Dardot and Christian Laval and their influences on the formation of contemporary identities; reflect on the role of education, in particular of scientific education, in overcoming the state of alienation brought about by the capitalist system of neoliberal societies. Design: Articulation between exploratory and bibliographic research, articulated with the theoretical frameworks of Paulo Freire's critical theory and pedagogy. Settings and Participants: Given the typology of the research carried out, articles, books and documents about the capitalist system in neoliberal societies, the educational legislation and Paulo Freire's pedagogy. Data Collection and analysis: Critical reflection on the texts consulted and included in the research. Results: There is a relationship between the subjects constituted from the marketing logic and the role of the school as a reproducer of mechanisms of subjugation to the hegemonic capitalist system; there is also the business and industrial influence in the development of educational policies throughout the history of education. Conclusions: As a possibility of transforming this scenario of alienation from the educational system to hegemonic power, the Freirean conception of emancipatory critical humanist education is presented, in addition to the reproduction of capitalist logic, based on the awareness of subjects based on dialogical pedagogy and the appropriation of the scientific knowledge as a transformer of reality.

This book aims at analyzing the trajectory of the automotive industry in Latin America, focusing on the social, economic, and political implications inherent to the establishment of this sector in countries such as Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, and Mexico. The topics regarding the world of work and its relationship with technology and socio economic development appear as guiding axes of the analysis process. In its two volumes, the work consists of chapters presenting researches by specialists dedicated to mattersranging from the organization of the automotive chain in the main countries in which it is present on the continent, to the ways of managing labour in factories and their consequences to workers in economic, political, social, health, and safety aspects. The relationship between the State and private corporations (as in public policies topromote the growth of such industry) is addressed, as wellas the role of the organization and mobilization ofworkers' unions in such processes. Additionally, there are analysis on topics such as the links between the automotive industry and other sectors (such as oil orfinances) and trade unfolding at the level of regional blocs (Mercosur and NAFTA), as well as studies on the impact son development dynamics location of enterprises linked tothis industrial chain. It is a work that contributes with new and innovative knowledge on such subjects, positioning itself as reference material for professionals from different areas and activities, from those involved in academic research, to those who have prospecting, formulation, and decision-making roles. ; Este livro dedica-se a analisar a trajetória da indústria automotiva na América Latina enfocando as implicações sociais, econômicas e políticas inerentes à implantação desse setor em países como Argentina, Brasil, Colômbia e México. Os temas concernentes ao mundo do trabalho e sua relação com a tecnologia e o desenvolvimento socioeconômico figuram como eixos orientadores do processo de análise.
