After coming to a new country, immigrants face social, political, economic, cultural and educational integration problems. Solution to these problems may be found by fostering the self-directed learning of immigrants in the community-based organizations. Therefore, research aim of the dissertation – to create a grounded theory of immigrants' self-directed learning in community-based organizations on their path to integration into the host society. Created grounded theory of immigrants' self-directed learning in the community-based organizations in the context of the personal level includes specific parameters and their expressions – universality and transient effect. Parameters (preconditions, context, strategies, and results) of grounded theory of immigrants' self-directed learning in the community-based organizations at the personal level can be transferred essentially unaltered into the specific national context of education and integration policy. In the meantime, the grounded theory on immigrants' self-directed learning in the community-based organizations at the level of the organization covers the specific parameters with a characteristic of contextual nature. In order to transfer the grounded theory on the immigrants' self-directed learning at the level of organization to the specific organization and national context, the need to specify it in the specific context of the organization arises. Strategies of the self-directed learning reveal the innovation of this grounded theory – they are both essential ways for solving the problems of immigrants' integration and factors for the holistic growth and development of an individual.

The master thesis of Sigita Čiurliene, deals with the issue of social relationship in school society and its democratic expression. It is an attempt to give a definition of social relationship and to show the main ways of its creation and development in learning environment. The concept of democratic relationship is emphasized in Lithuanian main documents. Famous scientists investigated and described social relationship but we are short of exhaustive works in this field. The author's objective in this paper is to analyze democratic relationship in school community and to find out the main factors influenced this relationship. The main focus is to provide analyses of the following problems: determination of social relationship in school society; investigation of students' and teachers' attitude towards social relationship and different factors influenced it; analyses of the relationships between students and teachers and their nature. In accordance with the analyses of special literature, students' and teachers' interviews and observation of students there were made the following conclusions: analyses of scientific literature have disclosed that democratic relationship stipulated active participation based on two- way exchange with respect, trust, openness and it is of the same importance to all members of the society. Only in such learning environment students and teachers become partners. The empirical part of given analyses has disclosed that students consider that democratic relationship is based on respect, tolerance, equal rights, openness. They think that democratic relationship in school depends on socializing with other people, defending of interests, participation in school life, opportunity to participate in decision and influence it. These facts allow to confirm that students' activity contribute to the consolidation of democratic social relationships in school. On the other hand teachers consider that the background of democratic relationship is an opportunity to have your own point of view, to say it without any scare and to be sure to be listened to, respect and socializing. Teachers think that social relationship in school depends on family environment, psychological atmosphere in school and socializinglevel among all the members of school society. According to the students observation data presented in the report we can confirm that relationships in preliminary school differ from that of secondary school. The students in preliminary classes are more aggressive and conflict situations occur much more often. In basic classes social relationships are quiet, open, friendly, conflict situations are very rare, as far as 12th class is concerned their relationships are open, helpful, respectful.

The object of this study is the rural civic community and it's connections with the education system. The problem of the study – more active involvement of the rural civic community in the education system. The hypothesis of this study: 1) involvement of the rural civic community in the education system determines potential of the community (competences of it's members, possibility to fulfil the needs of community's members, competitive ability); 2) the rural civic community is connected with the education system weakly or nominally. The purpose of this study is to reveal reserves and encumbrances of rural civic community's connection with the education system. The purpose is reached by these goals: a) to analyze the conception of the rural civic community and development of the movement of the communities in Lithuania; b) to discuss the reserves of rural civic community's connection with the education system; c) to discuss the encumbrances of rural civic community's connection with the education system; d) to explore the possibilities of rural civic community in the field of education; e) to interview workers from the Kaisiadorys District and to explore in which ways communities of the Kaisiadorys District take part in the education activity; f) to analyze educational needs of the members of Kaišiadorys District rural communities and education activity of these communities. The methods of the study: analysis of scientific literature and law deeds, analysis of documents of Administration of Kaisiadorys District Municipality and Kaisiadorys Local Action Group, interview with workers from Kaisiadorys District Municipality, members of Kaisiadorys Local Action Group and, director of school, questionnaire of representatives from Kaisiadorys rural communities, statistical analysis and generalization of data. In the study conception of rural civic community, development of the communal movement, connections of the rural civic community with the education system and possibilities of community education activity are analyzed. Education activity of Kaisiadorys District rural communities, possibilities of this activity, learning demands of members of communities are discussed. During the study it is clarified, that in Lithuania a lot of attention is paid to consolidation of rural civic community and involvement of the rural civic community in the education system determines potential of the community. The article states that membership in the EU results in the Europeanization of organized interests & learning process, through which three types of interests -- business, labor & public interest groups -- make their decisions on how to extend their lobbying activities to the EU. Europeanization, which stands for the adoption of values, policy styles & knowledge by the EU-based interest community, is viewed as a major source of organizational change in the system of Lithuania's interest groups. The understanding of learning about the cultural and architectural heritage, its protection and promotion possibilities are strongly influenced by rapidly spreading technological innovations. The spread of the Internet and commonly accessible benefits, offered by the Global Positioning System (GPS), created the possibility for the formation of a new virtual geocaching movement, the activities of which were united on the www.geocaching.com website. The GPS, which originated in the United States of America in 1970, has been kept as a military secret for a long time. The new and advanced version was adapted to be freely used by the civilians; however, it had a rather significant error of up to 100 meters. Yet, as on May 2, 2000, the resolution passed by the President Bill Clinton prohibited the military from blocking the GPS signals. D. J. Ulmer, an engineer from the USA State of Oregon, made use of this situation and on May 3, 2000 hid a container in a forest, which he gave a rather peculiar name of "the Great American GPS Stash Hunt". Its coordinates were posted on one of the GPS user websites. This was the start of the virtual geocaching movement which currently has over 6 million of registered users promoting an active lifestyle and an attractive way of learning about the environment by offering each member of the society a possibility to present his or her well known locations through an individual prism of vision and perception. The system of realization trends was projected in the state education strategy enacted on the 4th of July in 2003 by Parliament. It is paid attention to the calibre, the management culture and the opportunity to learn all the life. There are five the realization trends of state education strategy: the management, the infrastructure, the support, the content and the personnel. The analysis of the research shows that the finance of higher education, the modernization of teaching, the present learning load of students which belongs to the implementation of information technology are the main trends of state education strategy. The finances of a state will be introduced in 2009 which will offset the best part expenses of students learning. The educational institution should have to help persons to gain the qualification which should meet the requirements of these days and satisfy modern technology.

Nowadays an active search for new methods and techniques of teaching foreign languages is taking place very intensively. That meets the current state of methodological science and the rapid development of the world community as a whole. Intensive technologization and computerization of all spheres of human life, which led to creation of a firm habit of young people to perceive information from the screen, led to the active penetration of audiovisual means of learning in the system of education at schools and universities. Authentic video and various videos created by methodologists specifically for educational purposes are used more and more frequently in the process of foreign language teaching. The use of video clips at the foreign language lessons perfectly suits to the tasks which foreign language teachers face in the context of the development of active multilingualism in the Lithuanian society. The article highlights the use of audiovisual method in teaching the second foreign languages at the Military Academy of Lithuania. The analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of this method is also produced as well as the requirements for authentic audiovisual materials which can be used for educational purposes and the technology of methodological development of authentic video material for its use in foreign language course.
