While the importance of translation in the postmodern globalized world should be self-evident, the act of translation calls for a unique talent. Translation is best described as a phenomenological act in which a translator seeks to enter the mind of the original author and translates on the basis of equivalence, with as little change to the original as possible. It calls for a certain historical sense and knowledge of linguistic transformation happening over a period of time. My research shows that of all the considerations, a translation is, broadly speaking, a three-pronged strategy, being linguistic, cultural and political act at the same time. My paper takes up case studies of translations into English of some native languge/dialects texts and analyses them from the aforesaid angles, bringing out the benefits and underlining the pitfalls on the way.

This study explores the translation of cultural-specific terms in the literary text as the translation process connects cultural differences between the source and target languages. Using Eco's notion of "translation as negotiation"; Bassnett's "translators as a mediator of cultures", and Newmark's cultural categorizations of terms as the framework and this qualitative study analyzed two Indonesian versions of the novel The Secret Garden by Francess Hodgson Burnett (1911). The first translated version was published in 2010 under the title "Taman Rahasia", whereas the second translated version was published in 2020 under the same title as the original version. This study has shown the complexity in closing the cultural gap between the source text and target text. As the impact, both translators used different forms of negotiation to accommodate readers' expectations and to functionally create optimal target texts in the target culture, which differentiate into five categories (i.e., ecological, material culture; social culture, social, politic, and administrative organizations; and gestures and habits).

At the beginning of the 20th century, as the popularity of Maurice Maeterlinck grew, more and more often the names of the Belgian symbolist, his characters, quotations and paraphrases of his texts occurred in the Latvian fiction. A character in Latvian literature, a reader and connoisseur of Maeterlinck indirectly reflects the taste of people interested in literature at the time and through the prism of reception aesthetics provides an insight into the specific features of reading the popular writer. Thus Maeterlinck's intertext reveals the most essential Belgian concepts and aspects of metaphysical thought to Latvian writers. It can be read both in the works of art of Maeterlinck's translators – Zeltmatis (Ernests Kārkliņš) and Augusts Baltpurviņš and in the works of other Latvian writers at the beginning of the 20th century: Viktors Eglītis, Edvards Vulfs, Fallijs and Antons Austriņš. In the case of the male character the bond is created with Maeterlinck's own literary activities and his innovations, whereas the female characters are depicted as alien: heroines of Maeterlinck's plays resemble Pre-Raphaelite damsels.

The conceptualization of the pandemic as a catastrophic event is multifaceted, involving socio-historical and cultural dimensions. The potential answer lies in the observation, that it coincided with the final stages of the First World War, allowing for socio-historical interpretations based on this contextualization. Apart from the overshadowing effect of the First World War, as several resources indicate, the experiences of the 1918 pandemic may have faded from collective memory due to inadequate documentation and reporting. Does this oblivion or silence prevail in Turkish literature?

Introduction. The article presents the results of an analytical review of scientific papers reflecting the stages of formation and development of cognitive poetics as an interdisciplinary research area in Russian linguistics. The purpose of the article is to systematize and critically analyze approaches, concepts and methodological principles of the study of concepts that constitute the cognitive basis of literary texts, authors' idiostyles and, by extension, of poetic sociolects and literary genres.Methodology and sources. The paper reviews theoretical concepts and approaches (developed by R. Tsur, P. Stockwell, I.A. Tarasova, N.S. Bolotnova, L.O. Butakova, etc.), which served as the foundations of cognitive poetics. A comparative analysis of works focusing on the structure of literary concepts, their textual representation aspect and categorization criteria is carried out. The studies which concentrate on the application of corpus methods in order to analyze literary texts, including the works by B. Fischer-Starcke, D. Siepmann, A. Stefanowitsch, M. Mahlberg, etc., also formed the methodological basis for the analytical review.Results and discussion. As a result of the review study, the evolution of theoretical and methodological approaches to literary concepts and literary texts' ideospheres is demonstrated. The main concepts that influenced the formation of cognitive poetics are identified; the relevant problems of cognitive studies of poetic and prose texts are analyzed. It's shown that it is necessary to further consider the problem of identifying dominant concepts of authors' idiostyles describing cognitive mechanisms that underlie the semantic variability of individual concepts. The importance of using corpus methodology in the study of literary discourse in its synchronic and diachronic perspective is discussed.Conclusion. It is shown that, despite the fact that the author's creative consciousness has been studied intensively and for a long time in Russian cognitive poetics, there are still problems that need further consideration. The following aspects must be analyzed: the criteria for choosing the method of modeling a literary concept, taking into consideration its type; the elaboration of uniform terminology in existing approaches; the development of the algorithms for describing the structure of literary concepts and identifying conceptual dominants of authors' ideospheres. A conclusion was made regarding the potential of applying corpus research methods in the field of cognitive poetics. A range of the tasks related to the cognitive research of literary texts that could be solved by using statistical methods of corpus linguistics was determined.
