Sixteenth-century Spanish thought is constitutive of an established, though insufficiently studied, tradition of European political theorizing. As against the politics of Machiavellism, the Spanish tradition argued in favor of an ethical perspective on statecraft. As an introduction to the subject, this article addresses key concepts set forth by the Dominican theologian-jurist Francisco de Vitoria regarding the natural foundations and teleology of the state and its coercive power. Terms such as "natural law", "dominium", and "perfect community" describe the Thomistic basis of his political philosophy and illustrate the moral significance and legitimate basis of political society in early modern Spanish politico-theological thought.

In this paper, we analyze Humes's principles of sympathyand humanitarianismin both the Treatise of human natureand An Inquiry concerning the principles of morals, in order to establish whether Hume made a change of principle between these two works, which significantly alter his moral theory. All this on the understanding that sympathy requires a theoretical framework for justification and correction of selfish feelings that humanitarianism, which appeal to politically correct feelings, completely abandon.
; This paper analyses a series of essays by the non-juror priest Jeremy Collier (1650-1726) in which he tackled the subject of the spleen. Reading them in connection with the contemporary writings of William Temple, the paper studies the way in which Collier employed classical moral philosophy in his claim for a reformation of the manners. It argues that the priest made a critical appropriation of Stoicism through which he conceived the spleen as a sign of a moral crisis which demanded a government of the passions based on reason and faith. Finally, by way of an epilogue, the article suggests a filiation with the afterlife of the spleen in the 19th century, in terms of the idea of estrangement. ; Fil: Gattinoni, Andrés Juan. This article reveals key elements of the Neapolitan intellectual map of the Counter-Reformation one of the most complex and fascinating of the Italian history at the dawn of the Enlightenment. The main objective is to resettle the place of both Jansenism and Scholastics to the Neapolitan intellectual history of the first half of the eighteenth Century. This article places the Letters addressed to the Father General of the Society of Jesus written by the patrician Genoese and political philosopher Paolo Mattia Doria in the context of the Inquisition's trial against the atheists-atomists (1688-1697), whose echoes were heard all the way to the first decades of the eighteenth Century.
; Moral philosophy may help Jurisprudence in several forms. There are three flawed ways of doing moral philosophy that lawyers can help fight. The first is the meta ethics obsession based on a skeptical bias against any substantive reflection. The second is the activist dilettantism of those who talk about moral and political issues without having any theoretical background. The third is a form of philosophical reflection that on the way to looking for the supreme principles of morality it has lost touch with any human moral experience. Contact with lawyers can help fight these vices. This is a service that legal reflection may offer to Moral Philosophy.

The present article addresses the relationship between market and morals as developed by the social philosophy of Axel Honneth. By looking at Honneth's assessment of the normative foundations of the modern division of labour, I explore his interpretation of the moral nature of economic or distributive injustices. I also examine Honneth's description of the market as a sphere of "social freedom" that involves a promise of reciprocity which is fundamental to the legitimacy of economic exchange. I discuss these two interpretative models of the relationship between market and morals in terms of their normative contribution to debates on the democratisation of the economy.
The title of our text reads Around the idea of moral progress, where the expression "moral progress" points out on the one hand to moral philosophy or ethics and on the other hand to the philosophy of history. As for the first one, the idea of a moral progress is questioned here through the Aranguren's threefold distinction between morals as structure, content and attitude. For the second one, the idea of moral progress refers to utopian thought, which assails the problems of human rights in the context of what be called "democracy as morals".
This article aims to reflect on justice and its relationship with the law, without eliminating the moral aspect that must be inextricably linked to the terms described. By the same token and particularly we need to consider the concept of justice from Plato and Aristotle through some modern and contemporary thinkers, and the relationship of it with the activities of the polis. And if so justice we have to understand it as the ability to take the place of other individuals who are suffering and who need the moral commitment of people into a community and which are capable of deliberating, so it is necessary to state that the exercise of justice needs the practice of deliberation.
In this article I focus on the concept of habit in Kant's philosophy. First of all, I concentrate on the criticisms he delineates against Gewohnheit in his epistemological and moral philosophy. In particular, habit is seen as absence of moral freedom. This conclusion is pretty different from Kant's position expressed in his Anthropology From the Pragmatic Point of View and in the last part of the Conflict of the Faculties. After a deep insight on the different terms referred to the conceptual field of habit, I focus on the relation between Gewohnheit and desire: in fact, Kant recognized that habit is not the mere repetition of an act, but more precisely it is the desire of repetition. That is why it is not strictly bonded to the deterministic world and it does not refer to machines: only the living beings may have habits. This way, it is possible to understand its role within the theme of health: in the reflections on dietetics, habit is particularly useful. The last part of the article is devoted to the new perspective on Kantian political philosophy opened by this positive view on this concept.

; The angular basis of political philosophy in Otfried Höffe is the legitimization of the "moral point of view" to develop the principles of political justice. Since the beginning of his philosophical career Höffe's work has maintained and defended the "moral point of view" as the key regulatory element to tackle crucial issues of political philosophy. The normative deficiencies of anarchism, and the complete demoralization of the law by legal positivism constituted the starting point for the construction of his theory of political justice.
