Nasheeds as a part of the jihadi culture. The role of music in the Islamic State's propaganda
In: De securitate et defensione: O bezpieczeństwie i obronności, Band 5, Heft 1, S. 57-71
ISSN: 2450-5005
Nasheeds outpace the era of Internet and Youtube. Jihadist poetry in the Islamist hymns can be seen as an extension of the 19th-century anticolonial style of poetry called qaseeda. Presented article shows that nasheeds were not always a significant element in the jihadi culture. The increase of their role was observed quite recently, after the outbreak of the "Arab Spring". This article is a case study. It attempts to fill a gap in research on the IS's propaganda materials. The major objective of this article is to investigate the phenomenon of jihadist naseeds, including their role in the 'jihadi culture'. The author seeks to answer to the question whether the presented facts may indicate the increase in their role occurred with the transfer of IS' activities to cyberspace and whether it will be intensified in the future. The article takes into account historical conditions, briefly describing the genesis of the naseeds and their proliferation after the events of the "Arab Spring". Then, using systemic analysis, the author presents their role in the activities of the Islamic State. In addition, theoretical and empirical research methods, such as: scientific literature analysis, case analysis, content analysis, classification, generalization were taken to solve the research problem.

Multilayering hardrock/heavymetal music in "Only Rock" resources
This article is composed of two parts. The first discusses the role of metal hardrock music (broadly understood) in the structure of the most opinion-making music magazine after 1989, ie "Only Rock", and in the second study focused on analyzing the content of the monthly magazine in terms of title genres, but in the optics of genology. The text uses existing statistical data, studies and, of course, source materials. Methodologically and substantively – in a narrower sense, the publication encompasses two new streams: Metal Music Studies (humanistic) and Journalism and Music Media (social sciences, media studies), and in broader terms quantitative and qualitative research (including structural analysis). The research showed that metal music was a constitutive aspect of the subject matter in a strictly formal rock writing, and even some of the leading elements.
Truth, provocation, propaganda. Images of the Holocaust in the Web services ; Prawda, prowokacja, propaganda. Obrazy Holocaustu w internetowych serwisach plików wideo
The word "Holocaust" functions as a keyword in reading of the contemporary history in the Web services (which contain video files). Very often this word is used in the context of some historical truth which concerns the second world war. There are mainly some newsreels or audiovisual documents which confirm the atrocities of the war. The forms of the provocation are rather rarely. In this perspective the authors want to notice some peculiar problems or phenomenona. Sometimes the word "Holocaust" is used by some communities to support their ideologies (for example in the political background) – and in this context the interpretation of this word exceeds the ethical taboo. ; Truth, provocation, propaganda. Poczucie braku bezpieczeństwa w tekstach polskich zespołów punk-rockowych i postpunkowych napisanych po 1989 roku ; Почуття відсутності безпеки в текстах польських панкових, рокових і постпанкових гуртів, написаних після 1989 року
Representatives of the Polish punk-rock scene were careful observers of political, social and economic unrest in the world since the late 1970s and in the 1980s. A large part of the texts, written at that time, aptly commented on the tragic events in the world. Unfortunately, some of them haven't lost their validity, like the song by KSU entitled 'Liban' ['Lebanon'], or by the band 'Brak' ['The Lack'] entitled 'Na Bliskim Wschodzie wszystko w porządku' ['In the Middle East Everything's All Right']. After 1989, more songs, referring to various old or new threats in the world, were written. Songs, produced within the punk scene, describe the problems of political, economic and social nature, which remain unresolved. Authors, such as Maciej Augustyn, Krzysztof Grabowski, Kazik Staszewski not only point to the genesis of security problems in the world, but sometimes predict the consequences of such events in a broader perspective. Surprisingly, anticipations of some authors who are not political scientists or sociologists, come true more frequently than scientific analyses made by security experts. Suffice it to say that almost at the same time when Fukuyma guaranteed that happiness of humanity would be manifested in liberal democracy, Staszewski and Grabowski warned people of imminent wars, crises, a new division of the world and exploitation. ; Representatives of the Polish punk-rock scene were careful observers of political, social and economic unrest in the world since the late 1970s and in the 1980s. Metal-morphoses On the language of metal journalism in the monthly "Rock'N'Roll" in 1990-1991
This article is an attempt at analyzing the language of journalists dealing with different types of metal music in the "Rock'N'Roll" magazine, which appeared in 1990-1991. The period after the transformation of the system in Poland is particularly interesting because of the development of music journalism, and the "Rock'N'Roll" seems to be the bravest music magazine of that time. Cycles of articles, concert reviews, disc reviews, analysis of the phenomenon – all of them constitute a very intriguing picture of this period in the development of musical awareness of Polish heavy metal audience.

Personality traits and the preference for metal music – preliminary meta-analysis of previous researches
The article presents the relations between personality traits and preference for metal music in view of previous psychological research. First reports concerning the influence of personality traits on music preferences appeared in the middle of the 20th century (Cattel & Anderson 1953). Social stereotypes relating to heavy metal fans have had an impact on formulation of research hypotheses according to which this group is characterised by antisocial behaviour, suicidal tendencies, depressive moods, substance and alcohol abuse, school problems and dysfunctional families. However, past researches have demonstrated a predictive value of different traits, such as openness to experience, risk-taking, extraversion and sensation seeking.

Disciplined bodies or transgressive subjects. Somatoesthetics of fictional death and black metal bands
The performances of metal music gropus kind be described as a spectacles of a high degree of symbolic convention, which is paradoxically intended to cause the effect of constant authenticity among spectators and listeners. However, it is diffucult to find any kind of material that shows behind-the-scenes existance of those gropus, we can find critical reflection on the phenomenon of behind-the-scenes discipline in meta-music texts, such as comics and animations devoted to the biographies of fictional music groups. These texts transgress the problem of the masochistic spectacle of the body fictional authenticity of the musical groups. Examples of such texts are the Japanese animation Detroit Metal City (2008) and the Polish comic Będziesz smażyć się w Piekle by Krzysztof "Prosiak" Owedyk (2016).

Synchronous alter-ego. Doubling and alternative in the work of Neurosis and Tribes of Neurot
This paper concerns at "doubleness" in work of Neurosis and Tribes of Neurot. The activity of both groups seems to be simultaneous: the same artists in the both bands, the same names of their albums, the same trakclists, similar cover designs suggest to treat it not as different ventures but as a significant dual artistic project. Parallel between simultaneous albums of Neurosis and Tribe of Neurot makes an impression of disturbing presence of unclear alterego in their music.
