This 2014 Article IV Consultation highlights that the Dutch economy continues to improve, supported by exports, rising housing prices, and improving sentiment. Exports are rising on expanding global trade, but consumption remains sluggish as indebted households continue to save. The external current account surplus now exceeds 10 percent of GDP, led by an improving trade balance. Labor slack and the large output gap have pushed down core inflation, raising real interest rates. Growth is expected to reach 0.8 percent in 2014 before rising gradually to 1.2 percent in 2015, supported by rising ex

Faced with high population density, close proximity of urban areas and urban-rural linkages, rural areas in the Netherlands have witnessed a gradual disappearance of characteristically rural landscapes and a deterioration of biodiversity. Future developments will increase pressures on rural land use, making a policy framework to address these challenges only more pertinent. In: Education policy outlook 2015. Making reforms happen. [Langversion].
"This policy profile on education in the Netherlands is part of the new Education Policy Outlook series, which presents comparative analysis of education policies and reforms across OECD countries. Building on the substantial comparative and sectorial policy knowledge base available within the OECD, the series will result in a biennial publication (first volume in 2015). It offers a comparative outlook on education policy by providing: a) analysis of individual countries' educational context, challenges and policies (education policy profiles) and of international trends and b) comparative insight on policies and reforms on selected topics." [Abstract: Editors of Education Worldwide].

This study of the education system of the Netherlands is part of the handbook "The education systems of Europe" which presents an analytical description of the education systems of all European countries, following common guidelines. The study begins with the historical and cultural background of the Dutch educational system which is followed by the description of the organizational and administrative context of the current education system. The next step is the description of school types on the different levels of the school system. The country study ends with an analysis of current discussions and opens perspectives for further development. A diagram illustrating the structural scheme of the Dutch educational system is part of this article. (DIPF/Orig./Kie.).

In this context, the OECD launched a major review of tertiary education with the particip
