The purpose of the article is to determine, characterize and trace the ways of implementation of the principles of primary education during the school reform in Ukraine in 1954-1964 on the basis of the analysis of the legislative and normative documents, reference documentation and educational literature. The methodological basis of the study are the source studies (provided the opportunity to identify and analyze different types of sources, which highlighted the basic principles of primary education in the selected chronological framework) and historiographical (contributed to identify the problem in historical and pedagogical science) approaches, as well as epistemological principles of historicism, objectivity, systematics. To achieve the goal of the study the following methods were used: general science (analysis, synthesis, comparison, systematization, generalization, which became the basis for studying the outlined issue), historical and structural (contributed to the development of the research structure), historical and genetic (allowed to structure the factual information). The scientific novelty of the research is that the article reveals and characterizes the principles of primary education, implemented during the school reform in 1954-1964 in Ukraine, which was not the subject of a special study. Conclusions. Primary education in Ukraine in 1954-1964 was based on the system of principles defined and implemented in the previous decades (compulsory, accessible, free, external differentiation, Sovietization, Russification, unification, atheism), restored (joint education of children of both sexes) and proclaimed in the context of school reform (polytechnic education, the connection of school with life). We consider the revival and implementation in the author's schools (V. O. Sukhomlynskyi, I. H. Tkachenko) of the principles of humanization and child-centeredness as a positive tendency of the studied period. Public sentiment towards heritage sites in Hong Kong has changed dramatically over the past decade. A city built entirely on its rapid urban development and redevelopment, Hong Kong has transitioned into a place where people start to concern about what is left in our heritage before it is too late. The change of public sentiment leads us to have a different set of expectation on heritage sites in Hong Kong, which is the topic of this paper. In response to the escalating public concerns regarding the administration's take towards heritage conservation, Hong Kong government's new Heritage Conservation Policy in 2007 launched the 'Revitalising Historic Buildings Through Partnership Scheme', overseen by the new Commissioner for Heritage's Office. The Scheme (the 'R-Scheme') is an initiative to engage non-profit organisations (NPOs) to conduct adaptive reuse at government-owned historic buildings. The Batch I of the R-Scheme included the proposed revitalisation of the Old Tai O Police Station. Built in 1902, the Old Tai O Police Station is a Grade II historic building located on Lantau Island. The Hong Kong Heritage Conservation Foundation Limited (HCF) has been selected to restore and operate the site as Tai O Heritage Hotel, a boutique hotel in a non-profit social enterprise model. The R-Scheme is a pioneer initiative that builds up a framework for public-private partnership in heritage conservation. And as most pioneer programmes go, while the R-Scheme opens up new opportunities and broadens the field of heritage conservation, it also brings new challenges that one might not have foreseen beforehand. This paper uses Tai O Heritage Hotel as a case study to look into these new challenges, and how these challenges are arisen because of the change of public sentiment and expectation towards historic buildings in recent years. Part of this paper is written in first person narrative, as the author has been working on this revitalisation project and has personally encountered these challenges, including heritage interpretation and public engagement. The challenges and solutions covered in this paper focus on the "software" of the project, as she is involved mostly in the non-technical aspects of the project, and also this portion of the project contributes heavily on satisfying public expectation as well. ; published_or_final_version ; Conservation ; Master ; Master of Science in Conservation

This paper is a much revised version of a paper that was presented at El Primer Coloquio Internacional de Economía Política y Pensamiento Económico, Cuba 2005, Rethinking Marxism 2006, Amherst Mass, Congres Marx International V, Paris 2007 and The Institutional and Social Dynamics of Growth and Distribution, Pisa 2007. ; 29 pages. ; This paper describes the implications for Marxist thought of the work of Daron Acemoglu and James Robinson. In the first two periods of this they explained how the rise of democracy brought prosperity to Europe and why the same process had not worked in Latin America because of the possibility of coups. The implication is that mass poverty can better be alleviated by safeguarding democracy rather than moving to socialism. In the last period A and R have formalized doubts about the efficacy of democracy in this role. The implication here is that Marxists should work to find a system of government that is immune to elite dominance. This study was conducted as part of NBG's MSc in Health Psychology supported by the University of St Andrews. The Mini-AFTERc pilot trial was funded by the Chief Scientist Office (CSO), which is part of the Scottish Government Health Directorates (Reference: HIPS/17/57). ; Background Fidelity of implementation (FOI) reflects whether an intervention was implemented in clinical practice according to the originally developed manual and is a key aspect in understanding intervention effectiveness. To illustrate this process of developing a fidelity measure, this study uses the Mini-AFTERc, a brief psychological intervention aimed at managing breast cancer patients' fear of cancer recurrence, as an example. Objectives To illustrate the development of an FOI measure through (1) applying this process to the Mini-AFTERc intervention, by including the design of a scoring system and rating criteria; (2) content validating the FOI measure using thematic framework analysis as a qualitative approach; (3) testing consistency of the FOI measure using interrater reliability. Methods The FOI measure was developed, its scoring system modified and the rating criteria defined. Thematic framework analysis was conducted to content validate the FOI measure using nine intervention discussions between four specialist cancer nurses and four breast cancer patients, and one simulated breast cancer patient. Intraclass-correlation was conducted to assess interrater reliability. Results The qualitative findings suggested that the Mini-AFTERc FOI measure has content validity as it was able to measure all five components of the Mini-AFTERc intervention. The interrater reliability suggested a moderate to excellent degree of reliability among three raters, rICC = 0.84, 95% CI [0.51, 0.96]. Conclusion The study has illustrated the steps that an FOI measure can be developed through a systematic approach applied to the Mini-AFTERc intervention. The FOI measure was found to have content validity and was consistently applied, independently, by three researchers familiar with the Mini-AFTERc intervention. Future studies should determine whether similar levels of interrater reliability can be obtained by distributing written and/or video instructions to researchers who are unfamiliar with the FOI measure, using a larger sample. Employing developed and validated FOI measures such as the one presented for the Mini-AFTERc would facilitate implementation of interventions in the FCR field in clinical practice as intended. ; Publisher PDF ; Peer reviewed

Velocity-based training (VBT) is a resistance training method by which training variables are manipulated based on kinematic outcomes, e.g., barbell velocity. The better precision for monitoring and manipulating training variables ascribed to VBT assumes that velocity is measured and communicated correctly. This study assessed the validity of several mobile and one stationary VBT device for measuring mean and peak concentric barbell velocity over a range of velocities and exercises, including low- and high-velocity, ballistic and non-ballistic, and plyometric and non-plyometric movements, and to quantify the isolated effect of device attachment point on measurement validity. GymAware (r = 0.90–1, standard error of the estimate, SEE = 0.01–0.08 m/s) and Quantum (r = 0.88–1, SEE = 0.01–0.18 m/s) were most valid for mean and peak velocity, with Vmaxpro (r = 0.92–0.99, SEE = 0.02–0.13 m/s) close behind. Push (r = 0.69–0.96, SEE = 0.03–0.17 m/s) and Flex (r = 0.60–0.94, SEE = 0.02–0.19 m/s) showed poorer validity (especially for higher-velocity exercises), although typical errors for mean velocity in exercises other than hang power snatch were acceptable. Effects of device placement were detectable, yet likely small enough (SEE < 0.1 m/s) to be negligible in training settings.

This dissertation examines the philosophy of Masaaki Kōsaka (1900-1969) from the East Asian perspective of Confucianism, which I believe is the most appropriate moral paradigm for comprehending his political speculations. Although largely neglected in post-war scholarship, Kōsaka was a prominent member of the Kyoto School during the 1930s and 40s. This was a group of Japanese thinkers strongly associated with the philosophies of Kitarō Nishida and Hajime Tanabe. Kōsaka is now best known for his participation in the three Chūō Kōron symposia held in 1941 and 1942. These meetings have been routinely denounced by liberal historians due to the participants' support for the Pacific War and the Co-Prosperity Sphere. However, many of these liberal portrayals have failed to take into account the full extent of the group's resistance to the military junta of Hideki Tōjō. Adopting the methods and techniques of the empirical disciplines of academic history and Orientalism, I develop an interpretative framework that is more receptive to the political values that mattered to Kōsaka as a Confucian inspired intellectual. This has necessitated the rejection of moral history, which typically prioritises modern liberal values brought a priori to the historical record of wartime Japan, as well as recognition of the different ontological foundations that inform the unique political theories of the East Asian intellectual tradition. Reinforced by the prior research of Michel Dalissier and Graham Parkes, as well as my own reading of the Confucian canon, I adopt David Williams's thesis of 'Confucian Revolution' as my principle schema of interpretation. This, I believe, is better able to reconcile Kōsaka's support for the war with his strong condemnation of the imperialist practices of the Japanese military. Moreover, acknowledging the importance of Confucianism allows us to fully appreciate Kōsaka's strong affinity for Kant's practical metaphysics, Hegel's political philosophy and Ranke's historiography.

This article uses the context of the widespread circulation of accounts about "CoronaJihad" in India during the COVID-19 pandemic to examine how public WhatsApp groups that participate in disseminating such accounts function within the ecosystem of hate around Hindutva majoritarianism in the country. The manner in which the WhatsApp platform operates within this ecosystem is mapped through a granular study of three public Hindutva WhatsApp groups; the messages within these groups during the first phase of the COVID-19 lock-down in India were examined during the course of this study. The pattern of messaging within the three groups that contribute to the narrative of "CoronaJihad," which blames the minority Muslim community for the spread of the virus in India, were analyzed. The article focuses on factors including company policies and the specific sociopolitical situation in the country to understand the circumstances that make WhatsApp's deep entanglement with the divisive politics of Hindutva majoritarianism in India possible.

On 17th February 2008, the Republic of Kosovo unilaterally declared its independence from Serbia. This sparked the debate on whether the right of external selfdetermination can be invoked as a justification for Kosovar independence. Many scholars maintain that the right of external selfdetermination applies exclusively only to people under colonial domination and as a result cannot be granted to the people of Kosovo since it is outside the context of decolonization. On the other hand, many scholars argue that it can be extended to people subjected to continuous persecution. As the debate continues, conflicts related to the claim of the right of external selfdetermination lingers. Thus, it is the purpose of this paper to assess objectively the question on whether the right of external selfdetermination can be applied outside the setting of colonization, and consequently whether it can be applied to the Kosovar case.

Globalisation has been associated with increased international mobility of capital but, partly due to legal restrictions, it is not often associated with labour mobility. However, free labour mobility and free trade are substitutes in respect of tradeable goods and services. The Austrian migration system channels migrants into industries which produce tradeables, e.g. manufacturing with a low capital to labour ratio, in particular, labour intensive industries like clothing, leather and textiles; and also into activities which are non-tradeables, e.g. tourism, construction and personal, health and domestic services. In the course of the 1990s, the rise in labour mobility lagged as industries employing a high proportion of migrants in the production of tradeable goods declined behind the growth in international trade of goods and services. Technological developments, the reduction in transport costs as well as improved processes for the production capacities of less developed trading partners resulted in a shift in the production of tradeable goods. The structure of migrant labour changed as a consequence and labour mobility lost momentum. Physical labour mobility is necessary only where services are linked directly to the consumers, for example, nursing or tourism industry, or where a particular type of labour is linked to direct capital investment, for example, highly skilled labour which move with multinational companies. Recent developments especially in communications technology, tend to promote mobility of services without the need for labour mobility. As long as capital, technology and managerial skills are mobile, labour may remain in the country of origin, e.g. in the case of Indian computer programmers. Both labour mobility and trade in goods and services will tend to produce a convergence in the pay rates of the countries concerned. (Heckscher-Ohlin) Therefore, forces which promote international movement of goods and services, may be expected to produce a tendency for convergence of pay rates even without a movement of labour.

Организация комплексных занятий и координация влияния форм проведения занятий профессиональной физической подготовки, должна нести черты блочно-модульного построения учебного процесса, освоения материала по физической культуре по интересам, по индивидуальным графикам студентов, по возможности точечного влияния на микроциклы в системе алгоритма взаимодействий субъектов. ; Merging the results of the implementation of educational technology sport-connection physical education in the discipline "Physical culture" in conjunction with military training are beneficial for improving the professional training of future students of Applied officers. The organization of complex occupations and coordination of influence of forms of carrying out occupations of vocational physical training, has to bear lines of block and modular creation of educational process, development of material on physical culture on interests, according to individual schedules of students, whenever possible pointed influence on micro cycles in system of algorithm of interactions of subjects.
