Nova država – nova jezična politika ; A New State – a New Language Policy
; Language is the most important human achievement, enabling functio¬ning of society at its many levels. It enables communication between in¬dividuals from the same language group and builds their linguistic reality. Like all other properties of political societies, language has to be regulated and normed. This was always the realm of states or leading elites that tried to organize governments at certain territories. Language was often used to achieve a strong national homogeneity through feeling of belonging, or iden¬tification with the language. More organized processes of language planning and language politics appear with the establishment of nation states in the 19th century. In modern times the role of the state was taken over by public media, including daily newspapers that influence the formation of public language. In this paper we analyze the lexical forms of daily papers in order to notice and register certain changes that Croatian language experienced in the period of 15 years since the formation of the modern Croatian state in 1991.

Novi Aristofan ; The new Aristophanes
U ovom radu publicira se crvenofiguralna posuda pronađena tijekom istraživanja ispod zadarske katedrale. Moguće ju je datirati u 410. godinu pr. Kr. i pripisati je slikaru posuda Aristofanu. Kr. ; An Athenian red-figured cup found in the excavations in the cathedral at Zadar is published here. It can be dated to c.410 BC and attributed to the painter Aristophanes. The figured decoration consists of a fine representation of the tyrannicides, Harmodios and Aristogeiton, in the tondo, and fragmentary friezes on the exterior giving a version of a sacrificial procession, no doubt to the Akropolis and in honour of Athena. The whole encapsulates the surge of pride of the Athenians in their democracy in the violent times of the late fifth century BC.

European Bioethics: A New History Guaranteeing a New Future ; Europäische Bioethik: neue Geschichte für neue Zukunft ; Europska bioetika: nova povijest za novu budućnost
Within the last twenty or so years a lot has changed in bioethics that is worthy of a serious re-writing of its history. Namely, up to the end of the 20th century Anglo-American "biomedical ethics" (often borrowing the name "bioethics" coined by V. R. Potter but deliberately ignoring Potter's concept), launched from Georgetown University and narrowed down to four principles, was a globally predominant doctrine, propagated by the Kennedy Institute of Ethics, its students, financial resources, and political power. Up to then, most of Europe had been very slowly accepting the notion of "bioethics", perceiving it correctly as an unnecessary American "import", while attempts to Europeanise the idea by revising the set of principles had not proven to be particularly successful. With the discovery of the work of Fritz Jahr in 1997, however, European bioethics regained its lost genealogy and found the courage to claim respect for values other than the American ones. Within the bioethics defined by the Jahrian "Imperative", a place could have been found not only for the colourful, philosophical, religious and cultural legacy of Europe, but also for the newly evaluated Potter's work. This "fusion", a substantial and methodological deepening and broadening of the discipline, soon revealed its attractiveness to Latin-American and Asian centres and individuals also. Today we can talk with certainty about the end of "bioethics in Europe" and the beginning of "European bioethics" with all the complexity and interdependence of its variations – Mediterranean, German, French, Central and Eastern European, and others. By finding similarities among them, we might eliminate fear from "insurmountable" moral relativism, but also avoid the mistake of understanding global bioethics as a list of national bioethics. For the sake of constructing a more "universal bioethics", this paper finds the ideas of Fritz Jahr, Van Rensselaer Potter, Diego Gracia Guillén, and integrative bioethics as promoted by several Southeast-European authors, as ...

Nova Evropa i javni um ; The new Europe and public reason
; This paper will examine the issue of finding the most adequate conception of normative legitimacy for the European Union. I shall argue that John Rawls's idea of public reason is crucially important in this context. Rawls maintains that the idea of public reason is important not only for constitutional democracies, but also at the international level. Following Rawls's lead, this paper focuses on the idea of public reason at the EU level. However, I shall argue that the idea of public reason that is adequate for the European Union should be based on the conception of free and equal citizens, instead of Rawls's conception of peoples.

New Global Digital Terrain Model ; Novi globalni digitalni model terena
In 1996 U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) developed a global digital terrain model GTOPO30 with the location resolution of 30" (approximately 1 km at the Equator). Despite the coarse resolution and limited attributes GTOPO30 has been applied a lot for different hydrological, climatological, geomorphologic and military use on a regional, continental and a global level. ; U.S.
