Beschreibung des Publikationsverfahrens 'Desktop Publishing (DTP)' und Bericht über einen im November 1987 zu diesem Thema veranstalteten Workshop. DTP bedeutet soviel wie 'Publizieren vom Schreibtisch aus' und gestattet es, einfach und wirtschaftlich Druckvorlagen zu gestalten sowie diese auszudrucken. Bücher, Formulare, Magazine, Hauszeitschriften, Prospekte, Kataloge oder Geschäftsberichte lassen sich mit entsprechender Software (Grundvoraussetzung: Software für Textverarbeitung und Grafik) in einem Personal Computer erfassen und gestalten. Drawing on queer and feminist Digital Humanities (DH) and Indigenous, antiracist, and intersectional approaches to publishing, this pedagogy piece reflects on a course designed and taught in Fall 2018 titled "Intersectional Feminist Journal Praxis." Students read intersectional readings on publishing while creating their own journal through Open Journal Systems Software (OJS). Employing principles of collaboration and praxis, students worked in teams around specific tasks like a call for papers, peer review, copyediting, and introduction-writing while employing critical publishing practices such as remaining reflexive about, for example, accessibility and power inequalities in processes of knowledge production. Their end product was the publication of the first issue of the journal they themselves created by the name of Intersectional Apocalypse (https://journals.lib.sfu.ca/index.php/ifj). This piece discusses this pedagogical DH experiment, grounding it in histories of anti-oppressive publishing endeavors and in students' own words and reflections on the course.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to propose and examine streams in the literature related to academic publishing, with a focus on works in marketing. The content of the works within each theme are then explored to identify what issues have been examined and their implications.Design/methodology/approachThe paper is a literature review, drawing on 30 years of research on academic publishing in marketing. The review is designed to cover the underlying issues examined, but is not designed to be comprehensive in terms of all the works exploring each stream of research.FindingsThere are five main streams in the literature focusing on: rankings; theory and knowledge development; how to publish;, criticisms of publishing; and other issues. Within each stream, a number of sub‐areas are explored. The works tend to be fragmented and there is generally limited in‐depth qualitative research within streams exploring the underlying assumptions on which publishing is based.Research limitations/implicationsThe focus of the research is on the streams of works, rather than the findings within each stream and future research could explore each of these streams and sub‐streams in more detail. Generally, the works appear to becoming increasingly sophisticated in terms of their analysis, which is only possible with the new technologies available. New metrics proposed in the literature that can be used to better understand publishing and additional qualitative research exploring some of the basic assumptions could also be explored.Practical implicationsThe research suggests that some streams with regard to academic publishing may have reached saturation and future publishing in these areas will need to be innovative in its approach and analysis, if these works are to be published.Originality/valueThis paper is the first attempt to develop streams within the literature on academic publishing in marketing and thus draws together a diverse cross‐section of works. It provides suggestions for directions for future research in the various streams.

Welche Strategien verfolgten nichtkanonisierte Schwarze Autorinnen im Umfeld der Bürgerrechts- und Frauenbewegungen, um sich ins politische und kulturelle Archiv einzuschreiben? Der Beitrag fokussiert die Lebens- und Werkgeschichte von Unokanma Okonjo, einer bislang kaum erforschten, antirassistisch und antisexistisch engagierten, transnational positionierten Akteurin der 1960er- und 1970er-Jahre. Die panafrikanische Aktivistin und engagierte Sozialwissenschaftlerin veröffentlichte agitatorische, akademische und lyrische Texte. Der Beitrag analysiert in erster Linie diese Produktion von Texten und das Begehren der Autorin nach "Gelesenwerden" und arbeitet dabei mit den Konzepten "ikonische Artikulation" als Element performativen Handelns, Talking Back als Äußerungsform minorisierter Schwarzer Frauen* sowie "Publishing Back" als Weiterführung von Praktiken der Auto_Biografie und der Selbstdokumentation. Die Bewegungen von Autorinnen wie Okonjo ins und aus dem Archiv Schwarzer postkolonialer feministischer Geschichte werden als unabgeschlossene Projekte einer "Selbstveröffentlichung" diskutiert.

Using over 700 color images of illustrated book covers and wrappers, this book presents a fascinating view of the remarkable, and as yet unheralded, creativity which characterized publishing and book design in Latvia between the World Wars. The majority of covers shown herein were made by artists or designers commissioned by publishers to attract potential buyers. It is through these illustrated covers and wrappers for books (and, for comparison, covers of selected periodicals, sheet music, and a few posters) that a glimpse of the "look" of the Latvian book during the Independence - late 1919 to the summer of 1940 - emerges

This paper examines the role situation of managers in book-publishing houses, and in particular the conflicts that different definitions of culture tend to generate. It sees the pattern of authority as tending to exacerbate conflicts by eliminating common strategies of conflict management and reduction. It further considers the general problem created by attempts to impose norms of moral commitment where the ideal is defined by others.
