The analysis of the representations of sexuality in French printed press since 1968 shows they are an issue of social relations of sex, class, generation and race. They legitimize these categorizations or are on the contrary means of subversion. These discourses are products of social and historical specific contexts, they are charged with different issues according to the intended readership. These representations participate in a strategy of differentiated naturalization of categories. Printed press regularly talks about pornography. This media coverage serves different goals according to the readership. Academic and media handling of pornography exacerbates the discourses and sexual representation strategies. The hypothesis of a social relation of sexuality is questioned, establishing a hierarchy between "straights" and sexual pariahs. Representations of sexuality in printed press confirm the hypothesis of sexuality as a privileged sphere of classification and ranking. It is also an emancipation bearer.
From globalization stems a rapid growth of agrarian capitalism. Large plantations are an emblem of this form of agricultural production inherited from the colonial times. They are subject to increasing political interest in several countries of the tropics. Development of oil palm plantations for instance have been supported by the government in Indonesia since the 1970s. This article questions the expansion of these plantations and the stabilisation of workers through the analysis of labor relations. A field study held in six large private plantations shows that the liberal and paternalist form of the welfare State leads to a strong influence of labor market on companies' remuneration and protection policies. The study of workers' individual economic initiatives also reveals land market as a decisive factor. In pioneer fronts were new private plantations have been settled since the 1980s, access to land ownership is a second parameter that shapes labor relations. The role of companies in the definition of social protections as well as access to land for complementary ones entails important geographic inequalities between agricultural laborers.
International audience ; In 1917, Étienne Clémentel, French minister of Trade and Industry from 1915 to 1919, required all experts involved with this institution to report on industrial products in the past, but also to recommend administrative measures for a better organization of production in a post-war economy. Most experts were engineers or scientists associated to the Direction of technical studies (Direction des études techniques), but also to the Advisory committee on arts and manufactures (Comité consultatif des arts et manufactures). Our article provides an analytical presentation of this voluminous document entitled "General report on the French industry, its situation, its future" (Rapport général sur l'industrie française, sa situation, son avenir) and published in 1919. At least three guidelines for reading should be put forward. First of all, the report has to be considered as a compilation of technical data, but also of administrative rules some of which were intended to bring forth new legislation. Secondly, the publication of this report could be seen as the birth of a great ministry with new prerogatives, and the renewal of an administration in charge of managing industrial production. At last, this document may be read as a technocratic view of organizing social and economical matters, with rationalization principles as a practical doctrine. Eventually, the Clementel's report should be recorded as a significant evidence of a technocracy in action during the Great War. From this specific point, the making of this document by the Ministry of Trade and Industry was definitively an opportunity for French technocracy proponents to express themselves without limits.
