In this article I consider the bottom-up, narrative process through which traditions are invented, using rejoneo (mounted bullfighting) as a case study. I explore the construction of rejoneo as "the newest but also the oldest" form of bullfighting. To understand this apparent contradiction, I synthesize "narratives of tradition" with Eric Hobsbawm and Terence Ranger's (1995 [1983]) "invented tradition." In doing so, I consider rejoneo through multiple and overlapping narratives structured into historical "chapters" with common narrative elements of heroes, villains, tragic downfalls, and triumphant comebacks. These narratives are contextualized in periods of intense social, political, and economic transformation in Spain over the past three centuries. This article combines a review of the lay and expert understandings of the history of the Spanish bullfight with ethnographic fieldwork undertaken with mounted bullfighters in Andalusia from 2000 and 2001. It redresses a significant lack of attention to the mounted bullfight in relation to the footed bullfight, thereby contributing to a more comprehensive literature of bullfighting in Spain. Moreover, this article provides a model for understanding that one of the ways traditions are invented is through narratives of tradition, contextualized by the wider social, political, and economic forces emphasized by the invented traditions approach.

La Corte Constitucional de Colombia declaró inexequible el artículo 5 (parcial) de la Ley 1774 de 2016 que, remitiéndose al artículo 7 del Estatuto de Protección Animal, eximía de sanción penal por maltrato animal a las conductas descritas en este último (rejoneo, coleo, corridas de toros, novilladas, corralejas, becerradas, tientas, riñas de gallos y procedimientos relacionados). Consideró que la remisión hecha por la Ley 1774/16 adolece de indeterminación (Principio de Legalidad), desconoce el Principio de Tipicidad y reproduce contenidos materiales declarados inconstitucionales, todo lo cual genera un déficit de protección constitucional hacia los animales. Sin embargo, difirió los efectos de la Sentencia por el término de dos (2) años para que el Congreso de la República adapte la legislación a la jurisprudencia Constitucional. ; The Colombian Constitutional Court declared UNENFORCEABLE article 5 (partial) of Law 1774 of 2016 which, referring to Article 7 of the Animal Protection Statute, exempted from criminal sanctions for animal mistreatment the behavior descriptions in the latter (rejoneo, coleo, bullfights, novilladas, corralejas, heifers, tientas, cockfights and related procedures). It considers that the reference made by Law 1774/16 suffers from indeterminacy (Principle of Legality), it does not know the Principle of Typicity and reproduces material contents declared unconstitutional, all of which generates a deficit of constitutional protection towards the animals. However, the effects of the Judment differed for the term of two (2) years for the Congress of the Republic to adapt the legislation to Constitutional jurisprudence.

This volume draws together three core concerns for the social sciences: the senses and embodiment, emotions, and space and place. The chapters engage with intersections between space, sense and emotion through a range of experiences and activities including dance, bullfights, healing ceremonies, celebrations and music. The authors herein critically examine diverse contexts, in and through which relations between sensate bodies, spaces and places, and emotions are constituted. The chapters draw on long-term ethnographic fieldwork from which the authors critically engage with their material on a fundamental level and contribute to contemporary debates about the nature and experience of emotions, the sensing body, and spaces and places.
