The revival of the religion in the new context of a global world-society, which is as modern as religious, doesn´t happen only as a sociological result of the dismantling of the postcolonial world —which denies the secularist forecast of the religion decline and provides the pluralism phenomenon with an unthought-of ethical and political complexity and virtuality—, but as a result of the modern reason crisis too, that makes reason rationally unable to justify political life relying on a rationalist ethical monism. The rationalist last foundation crisis affects as much the fundamentalist religious claims —which pretend to interpret the so called «religion resurgence or religion revival» in a «postsecular society» in a rapidly triumphal way, as the secularist claims which pretend to deny the religion any ethical and political virtuality in the public sphere. The democratic turn, antiauthoritarian and antidogmatic, coherently demanded within the context of the modern reason crisis by three wellknown representatives of the postmetaphysical, hermeneutical and pragmatist philosophy, such as Vattimo, Habermas and Rorty, replaces the debate between secularism and religion on the basis of true questions with the other on the basis of solidarity questions.

Religion has become a matter of intensified public concern in contem- porary Scandinavia, and the various media are the main arena in which Scandi- navians encounter such controversies. Historically-rooted understandings of re- ligion that are based on the Lutheran Church as both a public utility and cultural resource, and the secular state as the regulator of religious freedom and equality, have become re-articulated in newly emerging frames such as the politicization, culturalization and securitization of religion. This chapter presents the current volume's overall approach to religion in contemporary Scandinavia as a mediatized and contested social phenomenon. The chapter ad- vocates a perspective from which ongoing contestations and negotiations among a larger spectrum of actors are explored through an application of both substan- tive and moderate social constructionist approaches to religion. The various ap- plications and interplays of these approaches to religion may fruitfully contrib- ute to the further development of the theory of the mediatization of religion. ; Engaging with Conflicts in Mediatized Religious Environments, CoMReL

Picture a county clerk who refuses to issue a marriage license to an LGBT couple or a city bus driver who insists on wearing a hijab. The clerk is fired for failing to fulfill job responsibilities and the bus driver for violating official dress codes. Both claim that their termination violates the First Amendment speech and religion clauses. There is a well-developed First Amendment government employee speech jurisprudence. Less developed is the doctrine and literature for First Amendment government employee religion. The existing Free Exercise Clause jurisprudence usually does not specifically account for the government employee context. This Article attempts to fill that gap by developing a government employee religion doctrine based on the existing government employee speech doctrine. Part I summarizes government employee speech doctrine. Part II imagines a parallel government employee religion doctrine and applies it to the opening hypotheticals. It concludes that government employees who are religiously opposed to an aspect of their job would lose their religion claims for multiple reasons. In contrast, employees who wish to wear religious garb have much stronger claims. Part III addresses two concerns with my proposed government employee religion doctrine. One criticism is that government employee speech doctrine is too flawed to serve as a model. Another is that speech and religion are too dissimilar to base one on the other.

This thesis relates to the problems of secularity and religion to Tunisia. The stake is to study these two concepts in a new ground : Tunisia. This study rises from independence until the revolution. In the first left, the thesis concentrates on the genesis of the concept of secularity, its originality and the specificity of the Tunisian policy. This part constitutes first cross between the political power and religious. In the second part, the thesis concentrates on the Tunisian society. It focuses hard tearing between the adhesion of the movement reformist forced by Bourguiba and the Islamism represented by the movement of the Islamic Tendency. This part will be an opportunity to explore new social space. A new social architecture will be drawn, between female warping and the blooming of the religiosity. In the last part, we are accentuated on the excitement of the contemporary Tunisian thought in front of the choice between appropriation and adaptation to the secularism. The initial question in this part is doubly ambiguous. how does the Islamic company lay out the questions which disturbs it? Religious freedom, apostasy, wine, testimony : concepts subjected to endless debates. How can we interpret the delay of the Muslim company? The studies of Charfi and Talbi give us some tracks of thought. A new feminine generation will be present in Tunisia. It will be time to discover how the female thought occupies it the cultural scene in Tunisia. This thesis tries to answer if secularity is the cause of the crisis of the Tunisian society or the solution.

Gandhi believed in judging people of other faiths from their stand point rather than his own. He welcomed contact of Hinduism with other religions, especially the Christian doctrines, for he did not want to be debarred from assimilating good anywhere else. He believed a respectful study of other's religion was a sacred duty and it did not reduce reverence for one's own. He was looking out for those universal principles which transcended religion as a dogma. He expected religion to take account of practical life, he wanted it to appeal to reason and not be in conflict with morality. He believed it was his right and duty to point out the defects of his own religion, but to desist from doing so with other's faith. He refused to abuse a man for his fanatical deeds for he tried to see them from the other person's point of view. He believed Jesus expressed the will and spirit of God but could not accept Jesus as the only incarnate son of God. If Jesus was like God or God himself, then all men were like God or God Himself. But neither could he accept the Vedas as the inspired word of God, for if they were inspired why not also the Bible and the Koran? He believed all great religions were fundamentally equal and that there should be innate respect for them, not just mutual tolerance. He felt a person wanting to convert should try to be a good follower of his own faith rather than seek goodness in change of faith. His early impressions of Christianity were unfortunate which underwent a change when he discovered the New Testament and the Sermon on the Mount, whose ideal of renunciation appealed to him greatly. He thought Parliament of Religions or International Fellowship of Religions could be based only on equality of status, a common platform. An attitude of patronizing tolerance was false to the spirit of international fellowship. He believed that all religions were more or less true, but had errors because they came to us though imperfect human instrumentality. Religious symbols could not be made into a fetish to prove the superiority of one religion over another.

; This work is not a monograph but a collection of essays revised and supplemented for the present publication. The individual chapters are connected by the author's interest in religious education, which has determined a large part of his professional life (see Preface). Making Religion an Experience is not only the title but also the purpose uniting the book. Its central thesis is that religion is a fundamental human experience and is therefore has to be an indispensable component in public education. Accordingly, religious education is not only a matter of confessional religious instruction, it also embraces the teaching of secular ethics. Vice versa, religious education involves more than the communication of faith to religiously committed young people, and also more than mere information on the religions of the world (as is frequently stated). It calls rather for a discourse on what religion really is. This opens the door to a generally conceived education in religion with broader horizons than those frequently imputed to the teaching of religion or ethics alone. The book is divided up into a detailed introduction and five chapters, made up of 16 subchapters varying in length. The Introduction does not only offer an overview but also relates the program to the ongoing discussion about the return of the religious and provides a differentiated outline of the notion of experience as a systematic point of reference. Part I outlines the fundamental elements of a didactics of religion. On the basis of a criticism of sociological and educational concepts, a philosophical understanding of religion is introduced, from which the essential and central levels of a didactics of the religious are developed. Parts II and III concentrate on the language element as a basis for any kind of serious engagement with religion. It deals first (Ch. 2-1) with language as an expression of the rational, which is necessary for all forms of religious education, proceeding from there to language used in a general hermeneutic way (Ch. 2-2), and finally to a form of interpersonal discourse set out in Part III as the basis for the possible inclusion of religious themes in philosophizing with children. It is obvious that the attempt to lay the foundation for a didactics of religion has to prove itself useful in models for classroom realization, including concrete methodological indications. Part IV serves this purpose. The selection focuses on the levels set out in Ch. 1 4. In terms of a propaedeutic preparation creating sensitivity for religious issues, a number of picture books are first of all discussed from a religio-philosophical viewpoint. (4 1). To ensure that religious learning - getting to know religious outlooks on life, rituals, and symbols - can be carried out successfully, it needs to be experience-oriented. Both this chapter and the next offer an example of this approach, the latter leading into the central topic of existence in faith with the help of religious educational material (4-2). 4-3 indicates possibilities for the comprehension of religious language, while Chs. 4-4 and 4-5 concern themselves with the level of orientation, i.e. enabling the individual to take mature decisions in life. 4-4 deals with this issue on the moral plane, 4-5 on the political. Part V offers impulses regarding the conceptualization and organization of a form of religious instruction relevant to the present day. After critical discussions of Halbfas, curricula., and the LER model –, the final chapter presents a systematic and organizationally well established proposal for religious instruction for all pupils. The proposal claims to be innovative, consistent, and susceptible of actual realization. This collection addresses a wide-ranging circle of readers, notably teachers of religion, ethics, and philosophy. Some chapters offer suggestions for educators and parents. With a differing degree of explicitness depending on the chapter in question, scholarly discourse on religious education in a pluralistic world (Nipkow) is thematized and developed. This should be of interest for people and institutions committed to issues of education policy both in Germany and in Europe as a whole (politicians, churches, associations).

; The present master thesis describes the topic of religion in a human rights-based social work in the field of migration and flight. The core of the research is the outline of theoretical findings from current professional discourses on religious, migration and social work research one the one hand, and the statements of the interviewed specialists from different social institutions in Graz on the other. These are analysed using a qualitative research method. The findings can be summarised as follows: In the area of migration and asylum, the religion or religiosity of the clients plays a rather subordinate role for the professionals (religion as a private matter) within the aid process, unless it is explicitly identified as a resource. It turned out that the professionals try to avoid an excessive religious interpretation in problem situations by taking a holistic view on social problems. In case of determined conflicts with human rights norms due to religiously motivated behaviour of the clients, the professional work goes along with creating awareness of the human rights by building relationships with the clients. However, in practice such explicit conflicts are more unusual. In this context, human rights play a central role in the ethical attitude of the professionals, but are seen more from the point of view of the protection of human rights of their clients than as a normative base of social work. As an ethical framework, human rights, however, can be used as the foundation for a sensitive approach to the religion of the clients. Moreover, an increased topic of human rights in training as well as a more comprehensive human rights education across all pedagogical settings are considered desirable.

The term political religion was coined by Eric Voegelin in 1938. This article proposes its application to Islamism, as a way to explain the rise of this ideology in the contemporay Arab World. Nevertheless, the primordial aim of the study is to expound the historical background of Islamism, an ideology born in the political and cultural turn, known as Modernity (Nahdah) in the beginning of the XX century. The radicalization of Islamism is analysed as the consequence of the lack of democracy, the political manipulation of religion made both by local and foreign states, and recently, the political breakdown created by the various wars that are developping in some Muslim countries.
