Shōka, the Japanese term for School Song, is an innovation of the early Meiji Period. Both, the term and the music genre, had become a necessity following the promulgation of the Education Law in 1872 which stipulated that music had to be an obligatory subject in elementary and secondary schools. Its implementation had to be postponed, however, because in traditional Japanese music there were no songs with easily singable melodies and understandable texts suitable for school children. Such songs had, therefore, to be commissioned, composed or authorized by a department of the Education Ministry, called "Music Investigation Committee" (Ongaku Torishirabe Gakari), created especially for this purpose. ; Shōka, the Japanese term for School Song, is an innovation of the early Meiji Period. Since the "Good School" became a legislative decree containing the Government'sproposal for a reform of the education system, the world of educationalresearch has reacted intensely to it. This paper examines theprocesses of change with reference to the life cycle of scholastic institutionsand their chance for an evolutionary revamping. The underlying beliefis that there is no Good School without good schools, and that real schoolsshould not remain entrapped by a rigid paradigm. Firstly, I will examine thedynamics that have characterized the change schools have gone through inthe past decades; then I will pay attention to the processes of "derelictionof change" or "change-driven attrition"; finally, I will examine how it will bepossible to reverse such processes.

In the wake of the innovative thrusts of scholastic evaluation systems comingfrom the international and European context, as well as the development inthis last decade of Learning Analytics (LA), as a new sector of Technology-Enhanced Learning (TEL), the scientific approach to educational researchbroadens its horizons and invites us to understand how Research, Technology,Pedagogy and Evaluation can/should constructively dialogue. In fact, in view of the sudden development of the LA, the need to connectthe collection and analysis of data on school evaluation in direct synergywith the pedagogical and psychological principles of learning processes andthe interpersonal dynamics activated in governance emerges more andmore. The present study, starting from the political scenario and from the technologicalevolution mentioned above, aims to illustrate the pedagogical structureof the project "Valu.E for schools - Supporting school self-evaluation",promoted by INVALSI, whose purpose is to "test and evaluate the effectivenessof different training models to support school self-evaluation activities."It presents itself as an innovative heuristic purpose that opens up interestingand fertile spaces for dialogue between educational research, professionaltraining and self-evaluation of schools.

; This article aims at tracking down some identity features of the School of Architecture, Planning & Landscape of Newcastle University. Characterised by a very heterogeneous teaching staff covering a broad breadth of expertise across the discipline, the School strongly supports the idea of a social role for architecture. Partly due to Newcastle's architectural culture - rooted as it is in the rise and fall of a great industrial port at the borders of England - this vocation emerged clearly in the generation of the so-called New Brutalists, called upon to give a form and substance to the politics of the Welfare State. As a research-led school of architecture, APL understands design as a collective cultural endeavour that involves the acquisition and exercise of complex knowledges and skills, for which the reality of architectural practice is a constant term of reference.
Given the speed with which the modern world changes and digital tools become part of everyday life, even the teaching and learning of them must be introduced to the lower age – at primary school. But before developing the skills in the pupils, the teachers in the first place must know how to use digital tools, knowing how to use them in the teaching of subjects other than the computer science. Digital competence is then required not only for the business purpose, but more and more often we are faced with the need to know how to learn and improve our knowledge in the professional field through digital tools. Based on this analysis we formulated our research question: how prepared are the students of primary education in the digital environment? Could they think and write projects for children in the area of knowledge of the territory through digital tools? To help our students prepare and achieve this goal during the course of Educational Psychology with the students of the fourth year of Primary Educationat the University of Macerata, we have created the "Digital education and discovery of the territory" workshop, proposing to the students to use some innovative tools and thinking about how they could be included in the activity of primaryschools that concern the study of the territory they belong to (the city, the province, the region). The work has been dividedinto 3 phases. During the first phase, tools were presented that would be used (The application MyCicero developed in our Marche region, Maps of OpenStreetMaps and Vikidia) The second phase was both individual and collective work on the cognitive map that concerned the term "Promoting the territory".The theme of promotion and knowledge of the territory it belongs to is part of the primary school curriculum and certainly help schildren to understand their roots and appreciate them.
; Given the speed with which the modern world changes and digital tools become part of everyday life, even the teaching and learning of them must be introduced to the lower age – at primary school. This study aims to know and understand the perception of primary school teachers with regard to physical education in Italy, exploring its purposes, content, methodologies, students' evaluation system, and human, economic and sports infrastructural resources. To achieve these aims, we have utilized a qualitative methodology based on the analysis of content emerging from a focus group made up of teachers from the province of Venice. The data has shown that the teachers who have taken part in the research tend to consider physical education as an indispensabletool for the development of the whole person, and as a means capable to facilitate and foster the acquisition of motor and socio-relational skills. Moreover, the data has stressed several problems concerning the very few number of hours assigned to the discipline in the official ministry curriculum, and the absence of adequate sports facilities and equipment, along with a lack both of economic resources and teachers specifically trained for teaching PE in the primary school. We are convinced that the results of this research can contribute to give a further boost to the actions provided in the 107/2015 school reform law whose aim is to undertake a concrete and long-lasting political action for the real enhancement and implementation of PE. In the last two decades, in the field of Italian educational policy, there have been lines of development concerning school-work alternance (i.e. programmes that involve alternating periods of attendance at educational institutions and participation in work-based training sometimes referred to as "sandwich" programmes). Although many researches and gathering data have been carried out (monitoring the school-work rotation programs that were realized by INDIRE and MIUR), we don't have significant quantitative or qualitative outcomes that can point out the strongest aspects of this methodology. The aim of this paper is to identify the efficacy and efficiency of school work alternate experiences, in order to point out principal possible positive and negative factors. For this research a south district was chosen and secondary schools (14 in total) were selected with all kind of school (Technical, Vocational, Liceo). School-work alternance, is investigated as situated learning practice and through the activity theory of third generation, because the acquisition of the expertise can beensured only by two aspects: multi-contestuality and school boundary crossing. In this perspective individuals need to act in different contexts. To conduct this research is used the mixed method as a way to gather as much as possible information about a complex phenomenon. This educational research is part of the line of studies that deals with the construction of conceptual models and the re-elaboration of international research results (e. g. OECD surveys), with the intention of proposing possible updates of subsequent research or surveys to highlight the characteristics, differences and factors that determine the development of the individual's competence to use their own resources and develop them as talents and skills according to the potential capabilities involved. Sebbene siano ...
Starting from the analysis of legislation on primary school in Croatia duringthirty years, the article aims to outline the historical and ideological contextin which the transition of Croatian schools from socialism to democracytook place. The investigation focuses on the timeframe from 1974 to 2003, inorder to understand the three major educational reforms enacted in thoseyears. The analysis delves into the transition from the socialist model of educationto the organization of schools addressed towards a pluralistic view. Moreover, it highlights the issues that the Croatian schools are now facingwhile they deal with the legacy of the past and pave the future way to a pedagogicallyrenewed school. The article investigates the employment conditions of young early school leavers in Italy in the aftermath of the economic crisis, a period which was marked by a process of occupational downgrading. The empirical analyses rely on the 2005 and 2014 waves of the ISFOL-PLUS survey and show that the employment opportunities of youth who dropped out of school have substantially deteriorated over time, both in absolute terms and compared to those who attained an upper-secondary level certificate. The article discusses possible determinants of this negative trend: on the one hand, the increased negative selection of the group of early school leavers; on the other hand, the process of "crowding out" of workers with intermediate qualification levels from well-matching jobs. The results also show considerable gender differences and in particular the existence of a multiplicative disadvantage for female early school leavers, especially in Southern Italy.
The society in which we live is pervaded by digital innovations that have profoundly changed styles of living, communicating, socializing, working and above all learning. The vision of education in the digital age represents a shared path of cultural, organizational, social and institutional innovation that wants to give new energy democratic processes, new connections, new capacities for the democratic school. In this essay, the author, starting from the deep link between technology, education and teaching, seeks to define a vision of "digital" as an enabling tool and theory to change the school and society, focusing on the role that can have the new digital technologies in the school environment for the creation of a new democratic project. A school 3.0 can play a fundamental role as a laboratory for a new democracy in which more and more the skills of "digital citizenship" are essential to face an increasingly smart society.
