Elites, political elites and social change in modern societies
Scholarly studies of elites and political elites have a vibrant recent history. My aim here is to provide a selective summary of that history, focusing on the importance of social distinction and the theories of power structure as a theoretical background for understanding the influence of political elites in social change. Since new insights and concerns have emerged in this field, the organization of this essay is not entirely chronological. Even though I may have ignored many relevant contributions, my hope here is to provide some sense of the richness and significance of what have been accomplished by scholars regarding the relationship among elites and representation, the links between elites, democracy and social change and the theories of power structure. In this paper I also study the extent to which the introduction of a new research method by Domhoffian class domination theory opened a new insight in élite studies. Finally, an élite research strategy and two main conclusions are presented subsequently.

Escuela, asesoramiento y cambio social ; School, advice and social change
; In this issue I'll intend to give a view on in service teacher training from a political approach, understanding this as the contribution made to the community by people individually as well as in group. I'll come close to show you how today's teacher training focuses on simply technical and academic aspects and how the needs of teacher training are designed not taking in mind teachers' real demands but according to the educative authorities policies. Thus, I think it will be relevant to relate to the school as an institution, the training/expert advice teachers receive and the social values which I consider them being embedded in teacher training, and which will outline pupils' future education and their later influence as citizens. ; Grupo FORCE (HUM-386). On power and open-ended process of social change
This article aims to identify the factors which trigger social change, and what makes such possible. The argument opens by presenting a critical analysis of rational choice institutionalism for understanding the process of change. It is immediately followed by a section which argues that the identification of immanent power in all social relations represents the core factor for explaining the open-ended social processes of change. Furthermore, since social processes entail social changes, it is recognized that the interactions among ideational, material, structural and agential elements within time and space are crucial. For, it is argued that neither political, nor economic trends determine the outcomes of processes, because public and private functions and activities can play complementary roles of one another. It is also stressed that the internal appropriation of change contributes to the incremental, punctuated and evolutionary character of social change. ; Colegio de San Luis ; Universidad Autónoma de Nueva León

Fifty Years of Social Change ; Cincuenta Años de Cambios Sociales
1) The changes that have occurred in the human condition in the last fifty years are possibly the deepest and most important than those of any comparable time period of the past.Trips in outer space, atomic energy, hydrogen bombs, rocketry and telegest missiles, lighter alloys, synthetic fibers, mechanization of agriculture, automation of industry, full-time use with planned social insurance, control of tropical diseases and radiation therapy, vitamin lasa, hormones and antibiotics from birth , universal literacy, sound films and television, five-day working week, steps towards a world government in the form of international agencies such as FAO, WHO, the World Bank, etc., etc., are just a few randomly chosen examples of man's latest triumphs in the fields of politics, science, economics , sociology and technology. It is true that these changes have not yet become universal, and that some are characteristic only of the most advanced societies. Gender, activism and social change: Reframing the contemporary heroine
Because society is shaped through the stories we tell, women's testimonies are of foundational relevance when we reflect on social change, since their stories reinvent not only individual but also collective identity. As an examination from a life narrative perspective on how women view, enact, and reformulate their role in society, this paper centers on the testimony of Dr. Diana Maffía, whom –among other noteworthy womenwas instrumental in solidifying the work on gender and feminist perspective in Argentina since the early 1980s. This paper is an approach to Maffía's story, about her growing up during military dictatorship, her early years as a philosophy student at the University of Buenos Aires, her embrace of feminism, and the weaving of her two passions that resulted in the establishment of a permanent presence of the concept of gender within the very structure of Argentinean society. Maffía's narrative brings to light the work that unsung heroines do throughout their lives, evidencing that women have always been at the forefront of generating and sustaining change. Social change in Mexico : re-politicizing the agenda of reform
"A key claim of this article is the need for re-politicizing the processes of social change in Mexico, while critically examining economic imperatives as selfinduced enforcement mechanisms. Focusing on the socio-political dimensions of the process, I undertake an analysis of the features of the democratization processes currently under way. It is emphasized that if the latter are to succeed, we need to be aware of the broad transformative effects which they entail. Therefore, the challenge for a more egalitarian and democratic society must be undertaken without delay. It is suggested that network governance could be of great help in drawing up a more democratic agenda, which may open up further possibilities of transformation."

Cyberactivisim in the Process of Political and Social Change in Arab Countries
This research analyses the contribution of cyberactivism to the political and social change in Tunisia, Egypt and Libya, as well as the opinion of young Arabs on the present context. Meaningful information has been extracted from regular interviews to 30 undergraduates over a five-year period. These students had already participated in the process boosting the Arab Spring in 2011, and they keep practising cyberactivism ever since. The use of a mixed method research allows for carrying out a study where quantitative elements are complemented by qualitative ones. Findings show that Arab countries have not yet shaken off the former structures that supported the regimes preceding 2011, which are those that hamper the consolidation of a modern country. At the moment, there are still two conflicting realities between millenary traditions and values connected to revolutions and symbols of progressivism in Tunisia, Egypt and Libya. In a context where the unity of action action is needed, cyberactivism plays an essential role, as it brings together critical citizens in a common and virtual space. These groups are committed to change, they keep in touch with the outside world and beyond censorship, they make protests visible to the international arena, and monitor government actions.

Líneas de fuga: transformación y cambio social ; Social Flight Lines: Transformation and Social Change
; The main idea of the article is that the hypothesis of the flight lines simplyorients within the general problem of the diffuse resistances. We maintain thatthe approach to the question of how societies change and transform depends onnarrowing the research field beyond the rejection phenomena, non-conformity andcollective divergence. From that point of view the article distinguishes among: i) thecampaigns whose collective effort moves to the political claims; ii) the coalitions in thepublic meetings, rallies, manifestations, requests or declarations, solemn processionsand watches ; iii) the social innovation phenomena. The idea is to show that onecan consider the social movements in the context of decisive situations of radicaltransformation of the social experience, which allows us to get a rich definition thatexceeds the problem of popular activism and the fight for the political transformationof the State. In the end, the article turns the philosophical hypothesis of the flightlines into a general a sociological orientation that should serve like work hypothesisin practical research.
