À partir de 1830, l'est de l'Ontario, surtout le comté de Prescott, est le point de jonction géographique des Canadas anglais et français, la boucle de la ceinture bilingue. Ainsi, l'immigration en provenance du Québec transforme cette région, d'une zone frontière où vit une population anglophone clairsemée, en un secteur à majorité francophone. Dès lors, toute l'attention de la province se tourne vers ce comté ; la controverse sur la langue d'enseignement s'intensifie particulièrement après 1885, alors que le gouvernement ontarien adopte une série de mesures destinées à restreindre l'utilisation du français dans les écoles de la province. Chad Gaffield examine ici la question linguistique par rapport à l'histoire sociale et à l'identité culturelle de l'est de l'Ontario. Today somehow put aside as compared to Garibaldi or Mazzini, Daniele Manin is however one of the most famous actor of the Risorgimento in nineteen century France : the remarks about him in Pierre Larousse's Dictionnaire Universel du XIXe siècle or the street which was given his name in Paris are relevant enough to highlight his importance and his fame. To make a fair French political reconstitution of the Venitian hero, we must be fully aware of the foreshadowing factors that led to Daniele Manin's fame, by giving another vision of the Revolution in Venice through the prism of the French references in the making up of the Venitian, references which had been triggered off by the proclamation in Venice of the Republic but also, by questioning Manin's real part in the first events of the Venitian Quarantotto. The Parisian exile period along with the creation of the Società Nazionale finally give to the character a genuine Italian dimension as well as an astounding reputation among the French political Sphere in the 1850's and even beyond, up to the eve of the 1880's. The particular analysis of the reception structures added to the political representation of one of the founders of the Risorgimento in Second Empire France compel us to question the French memorial construction after Daniele Manin's death. In this study, I question the role of a category of non-State related Japanese agents within the evolution of Japanese expansionism. In order to examine the actions of these men, which I call non-institutional agents of influence, a clear definition was needed. Because of the plurality of the phenomenon, I choose to focus on three of its leaders: Uchida Ryōhei, Arao Sei, and Kawashima Naniwa. By analysing the paths of these men, I brought to light their origins, their ideological obedience, as well as the societies they were linked to, the Gen.yōsha or the Kokuryūkai, for example. I focused my research on the years between 1880 and 1915, and more particularly on events such as the Sino-Japanese war of 1894, the Russo-Japanese war of 1904, the annexation of Korea in 1910, the Chinese Revolution of 1911, and the two Movements of Independence of Manchuria and Mongolia in 1912 and 1915. My work is mainly based upon documents produced by the agents themselves such as the ones of the Kokuryūkai. This study demonstrates that the actions of these men, mostly acting in the background, were instrumental in the realisation of Japanese expansion, such as the annexation of Korea in 1910. More generally, they also influenced the evolution of the expansionist policies of Japan. ; Dans cette étude, nous interrogeons le rôle qu'a eu une catégorie d'acteurs non étatiques japonais dans l'évolution de l'expansionnisme du Japon. The neo-Malthusian movement was particularlyactive in France, from the 1890ies to the eve of World War II. It has also met with strongopposition and was actively fought, noticeably after World War I. Observing the number ofbirths, neo-Malthusianism points how incompatible the exponential increase of births iswith the possibility for the members of a given community to have what they need to reachhappiness. Hence, French neo-Malthusianism is inseparable from eugenics, which is acentral theme in the history of this movement, from its emergence to its last developmentsin the 1930ies.
