This volume concentrates on international issues that relate to economic policies and governance. It is essential reading for all postgraduates and scholars looking for expert discussion and debate of the issues surrounding the case for new economic policies at the global level.
The advent of globalisation and the continued development of new information technology has created an environment in which the one certainty for organisations is that they cannot cling to archaic, centralised and hierarchical models. The increased fluidity and speed of the global environment call for horizontal networked structures, where decisions are achieved through collaborative mechanisms, rather than pyramidal models. New processes have been emerging, in particular the practices of deliberative and participatory governance, with increased stakeholder and citizen inclusion and participation, greater use and reliance on networks of organisations, and efforts to resolve conflict through dialogue. New forms of organizations, networks, coalitions and partnerships, as well as the promises of open sourcing and the collaborative horizontal model point towards a new governance apparatus in which relationship-based patterns can project and protect a human dimension in this digital world. This book will prove invaluable to all those who are interested in participatory governance and organisational change.

"Preventing Corruption" explores the problems involved in the contemporary investigation, enforcement and governance of international corruption, identifying that no one country or culture has a monopoly on corruption, as it ranges across the social spectrum and different cultures. This unique international coverage explores the level of corruption in different public and private sectors of business for individuals and organizations around the world and highlights that some individuals and organizations benefit from corruption regardless of geographical location. It also examines the limits of current anti-corruption strategies, laws and conventions and considers the involvement of western democratic states in corruption, the concept of state capture and the corrupt use of private military organizations in conflict zones around the world. This diverse critical analysis of international corruption includes under-explored areas such as bribery, whistle blowing and the use of private bodies and will be a highly valuable tool for scholars and practitioners alike

"'Global governance' has become a key concept in the contemporary study of international politics, yet what the term means and how it works remains in question. Governing the World: Cases in Global Governance takes an alternative approach to understanding the concept by exploring how global governance works in practice through a set of case studies on both classical issues of international relations such as security, labour and trade, and more contemporary concerns such as the environment, international development, and governing the internet. The book explores the processes, practice and politics of global governance by taking a broad look at issues of human rights governance and focusing on detailed aspects of a topic such as torture and rendition to help explain how governance does, or does not, work to students and researchers of international politics alike. Bringing together a diverse and international group of scholars, each chapter responds to a set of questions as to what is being governed, how and who by and offers issue-specific case studies and recommended reading to develop a full understanding of the issue explored and what it means for global governance."--Publisher's website
"This book manuscript can be seen as two different books. The first is a history of political parties in ten nations (with the sections on France and Germany limited to specific periods). The second is a critique of the existing literature that emphasizes the importance of electoral rules as determinative of political party systems. In contrast, the authors argue that votes are determined more by community ties (specifically labor unions and some religious organizations), and these ties can explain many of the patterns that we see in party politics in specific countries. In addition, the authors add an explanation of the rise of new parties that hinges largely on whether or not alternatives exist that have not been tainted by having been part of the government"--
