This paper is an attempt to reveal the political situation of Myanmar during the reign of King Mindon. He ascended the throne only after the kingdom faced with two aggressive wars launched by the British imperialists. Because of those wars, the kingdom suffered deteriorations in terms of political, economic and social aspects. As a result of those wars, some parts of Myanmar territory also fell in the hands of the British imperialists. In this context, King Mindon had to endeavour to achieve the political stability and economic development in his kingdom. At first, he conducted administrative reforms with the aim of restoring internal stability and followed flexible policies in external relations with the aim of avoiding conflicts with the British in the future as well. He sent envoys to foreign countries with the aim of widening the horizons of his court officials. He also sent Myanmar youths to foreign countries to study modern sciences and technologies in order to establish factories which were installed with modern machines. Thus he tried to transform his kingdom into an industrialized nation. While standing side by side the British occupied Lower Myanmar, he did not fail to utilize the diplomatic means in dealing with other countries in order to gain international recognition to his kingdom as a sovereign nation. Because of his far sighted outlooks and wisdom, King Mindon could transform his kingdom into a semi modernized nation to some extent. Though he could not endeavour to regain the already lost territories, King Mindon was able to maintain the sovereignty of the rest part of the kingdom steadfastly. This paper tries to expose the political situations of Late Konbaung period during the reign of King Mindon. Abstract The poetry that Plath wrote embodies the interlocking of culture politics with the intimacy and domesticity of the female self. The late poems that she wrote a few months before dying, illustrates her interest in politics and the effects that socio-historical changes bring about in the lives of people. Her poem, "Ariel"( Collected Poems 239) well illustrates this. A late poem, "Ariel" was written after her separation from her husband, Ted Hughes. To Plath, patriarchy with its authority and expectations, regulated roles and conventionalism, is embodied by her dead father and her living husband. In "Ariel" the speaker, challenges the power of such an authority over an instinctual, precipitatious figure, particularly, a female figure. She begins the poem with the sentence "Stasis in darkness."(CP 239) The stasis is brought about by the deadening conventions that resist her attempts at constructing her poetics. The resistance is thrust aside as the speaker immerses herself in the revitalizing energy of the horse she rides on, the animal that is "God's lioness" (CP 239). The rider and the horse appear to rush in a blur, but even in the unity of movement, the rider cannot catch "the brown arc/of the neck" (CP 239). Perhaps the elusiveness of the horse's neck, as they move at breakneck speed, signifies the intransigency of poetic expression. The rider sees "nigger eye/Berries" that "cast dark/Hooks" (CP 239), the fleshly experiences that stall her movement, hanging on to her. They fill her mouth, wounding her, becoming "black sweet blood mouthfuls" (CP 239). The speaker's dark, injuring experiences are not rejected but are accepted as part of life's encounters.

Education is the keystone of the moral and mental development of the military officer, and he probably has a greater variety of educational opportunities than those in most other professions. These opportunities range from the broad experience of world travel to the narrow confines of advanced technology. As a result, the military officer is in an enviable position. He can "write his own educational ticket." He can specialize or generalize, but learn he must.

A new correspondence course, Military Management, is now available at the NWC. This course will provide the student an opportunity to further his appreciation for the principles processes, concepts, application and techniques inherent in sound military management.
