AbstractA large multidisciplinary literature has sought to explain how a person's wellbeing changes over time in response to individual life events (for example, unemployment), and to larger scale interventions and events (for example, natural disasters). The Household, Income and Labour Dynamics in Australia (HILDA) Survey has been a key data source for such explorations because of its consistency, longevity and breadth of information. Through a review of past studies, we highlight some important features in the dynamics of subjective wellbeing; particularly focusing on the speed of adaptation to wellbeing shocks, and the presence of heterogeneity in adaptation profiles.

There is a general presumption that epistemology does not have anything to do with wellbeing. In this paper I challenge these assumption, by examining the aftermath of the Gettier examples, the debate between internalism and externalism and the rise of virtue epistemology. In focusing on the epistemic agent as the locus of normativity, virtue epistemology allows one to ask questions about epistemic goods and their relationship to other kinds of good, including the good of the agent. Specifically it is argued that emotion has a positive role to play in epistemology, an example from Aquinas is used to illustrate this and to illustrate the different kinds of good involved in cognition.

This timely text overviews theories, concepts, and contexts relating to the emerging field of behavioral economics. Research theories and data gathered across psychology, sociology, marketing, finance, and other relevant disciplines are synthesized to identify and elaborate on the defining aspects of consumer economic wellbeing. Against a background of consumer rights and responsibilities, the book discusses consumer phenomena of earning, spending, saving, and borrowing and their contributions to improving (and in some cases to worsening) economic wellness. In addition, the author presents effective ways consumers can be encouraged to navigate key economic environments such as the media, advertising, and the internet, and to change negative financial behaviors. PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to detail the Wellbeing Project that was developed by Manchester Mental Health and Social Care Trust, in partnership with Manchester City Council.Design/methodology/approachA group‐based cognitive behavioural therapy intervention ("Be Well, Age Well") was written specifically to help improve the mood and wellbeing of older adults.FindingsA preliminary evaluation showed promising results and in response to a significant increase in demand for continued delivery of the intervention, there are now plans to examine the feasibility of non mental health qualified staff facilitating the course. Funding is currently being sought for a more definitive study.Originality/valueThe Wellbeing Project believes that if older adults are educated via the approach as adopted by the "Be Well, Age Well" course, the level of resilience will improve for those individuals who would otherwise have experienced compromised wellbeing.

Governments in liberal democracies pursue social welfare, but in many different ways. The wellbeing approach instead asks: Why not focus directly on increasing measured human happiness? Why not try to improve people's overall quality of life, as it is subjectively seen by citizens themselves?
The radical implications of this stance include shifting attention to previously neglected areas (such as mental health and 'social infrastructure' services) and developing defensible measures of overall wellbeing or quality of life indicators. Can one 'master' concept of wellbeing work to create more holism in policy-making? Or should we stick with multiple metrics? These debates have been live in relation to an alternative 'capacities' approaches, and they are well-developed in health policymaking. Most recently, the connections between wellbeing and political participation have come into sharper focus.
Wellbeing remains a contested concept, one that can be interpreted and used differently, with consequences for how it is incorporated into policy decisions. By bringing together scholars from economics, psychology and behavioural science, philosophy and political science, the authors explore how different disciplinary approaches can contribute to the study of wellbeing and how this can shape policy priorities.

Since 2008 the NSW Government has been investigating the concept of 'wellbeing' as it relates to Aboriginal communities. Adopting a focus on wellbeing has meant delving into questions about what makes communities strong, and what factors are unique to creating strong Aboriginal communities, as well as considering the government's role (if any) in supporting Aboriginal community wellbeing. This paper seeks to convey the essence of the journey into wellbeing to date. It details the positions and assumptions that this work started with, and analyses why this has shifted over time. It examines what worked and was feasible, and what didn't. In particular, the paper overviews the creation of the Strengthening Aboriginal Community Wellbeing Framework (the policy context), and the development of a resource in the form of a user friendly software program for communities wishing to holistically assess their wellbeing – the 'toolkit' (the practical outcome of the work to date).

Images, by their nature can captivate and involve us in a way that is very fast. Usually, this takes much longer through conversation or in writing. As humanity finds itself on the threshold of a new global reality we are only glimpsing what will become an utterly different ecological, economic and political system in the near future. The ramifications of navigating and surviving this new post climate change environment on earth is only beginning to take tangible shape. The effects in terms of anxiety, and stress across huge swaths of humanity are however already manifesting. How photography can help address this dynamic and engage it is what we will be exploring in this presentation.
