The paper analyses the intersections of Polish and European constitutionalism in the inter-war period. Although Poland had followed a unique constitutional path due to its historical background, nevertheless the general constitutional tendencies of that time still influenced the 1921 Constitution, as happened for example with the long and detailed bill of rights (full of both liberal and social rights), the important role of parliamentary system, the republican ideas, the strong democratic stance of the Constitution. The inter-war constitutionalism remains an important reference point for the following constitutional waves in Europe

Numerous studies have been made of regional differences in income and level of development in Italy, and these studies basically differ in the responses they give to the question of whether the said differences were already of a substantial nature prior to Unification, or whether in fact they have widened since then. The present essay is going to examine this problem by focusing on the local administrative system adopted after Italian Unification, in order to ascertain the existence of a different approach to public intervention at the local level, and thus to the existence of disparities in local public spending. The paper offers an analysis of the actual working of the post-Unification administrative system in Italy, in terms both of the powers attributed to Italy's municipalities and provinces, and of the degree of autonomy they had in deciding on funding methods. This analysis aims to ascertain whether the chosen strategy could have been maintained in a state characterized by strong regional differences, and to establish the kind of impact such a strategy had on the regional differences themselves. The main conclusion is that in absence of any sort of automatic transfer from the more industrialized regions to the poor ones, the adoption of a decentralized tax system for the financing of local public expenditure contributed to the deepening of regional divide. As a consequence at the beginning of the 19th century the central government started to subsidize the poorest regions and little by little move towards a more centralized fiscal system.

The premise of this article is that by combining a number of different disciplines, including history and literature, we may elucidate further key contexts and realities about Islamophobia. As such, this article is a reflection on Islamophobia as a multifaceted and developing phenomena that in turn requires multidisciplinary reflection. Indeed, we approach the issue from different perspectives: one author is a literary critic and historian (who has written about early modern Europe and curated a high-profile exhibition on Muslims in World War One), one is acriminologist (a leading expert on Islamophobia and a key advisor to the UK government on how it might be defined).

Abstract
This paper explores the relationship between the spread of bank offices, banking sector concentration, and economic growth in English and Welsh counties in the four decades before WW1. During this period, banks rapidly expanded their branch networks, while banking sector concentration increased. Findings from both panel fixed effects and instrumental variable regressions suggest that an increase in the number of bank offices in English and Welsh counties had a positive impact on local economic growth. There is no evidence of banking sector concentration being negatively associated with local economic performance prior to WW1.

Can wars breed nationalism? We argue that civilians' indirect exposure to war fatalities can trigger psychological processes that increase identification with their nation and ultimately strengthen support for nationalist parties. We test this argument in the context of the rise of the Nazi Party after World War 1 (WW1). To measure localized war exposure, we machine-coded information on 7.5 million German soldiers who were wounded or died in WW1. Our empirical strategy leverages battlefield dynamics that cause plausibly exogenous variation in the county-level casualty fatality rate—the share of dead soldiers among all casualties. We find that throughout the interwar period, electoral support for right-wing nationalist parties, including the Nazi Party, was 2.6 percentage points higher in counties with above-median casualty fatality rates. Consistent with our proposed mechanism, we find that this effect was driven by civilians rather than veterans and areas with a preexisting tradition of collective war commemoration.

Anciens ennemis, France et Allemagne sont entrés dans un processus de réconciliation après la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Toutefois, les commémorations, dans l'ensemble, sont organisées sur une base nationale, ce qui reste en cohérence avec une guerre qui fut un conflit entre Nations, un aboutissement du processus de création des États-Nations du xixe siècle. À ce cadre national, qui a notamment bouleversé la carte politique européenne, correspond aussi un certain nombre de «dissymétries mémorielles», accentuées par la division entre vainqueurs et vaincus. Ces dissymétries mémorielles se sont exprimées dès 1919.En cette année du centenaire du déclenchement du premier conflit mondial, les commémorations se répercutent sur les réseaux sociaux. Cet article fait le point sur un projet en cours, qui consiste en la capture des tweets comprenant des hashtags reliés à cette commémoration, en commençant par #ww1, le plus largement utilisé. Parmi les questions que nous tenterons de poser, une en particulier sera traitée ici. Si l'historiographie a mis environ soixante-dix ans à devenir pour l'essentiel transnationale, les commémorations du centenaire ont-elles elles-aussi évolué vers un cadre plus transnational que national? Nous tenterons de décrire dans un premier temps notre méthodologie avant d'évoquer quelques résultats de l'exploitation du corpus issu de cette collecte.
