TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION FOR THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY The book comprises 56 peer-reviewed chapters comprehensively covering in-depth areas of circular economy design, planning, business models, and enabling technologies. Some of the greatest opportunities for innovation in the circular economy are in remanufacturing, refurbishment, reuse, and recycling. Critical to its growth, however, are developments in product design approaches and the manufacturing business model that are often met with challenges in the current, largely linear economies of today's global manufacturing chains. The conference hosted by the REMADE Institute in Rochester, NY, brought together U.S. and international researchers, industry engineers, technologists, and policymakers, to discuss the myriad intertwining issues relating to the circular economy. This book consists of 56 chapters in 10 distinct parts covering broad areas of research and applications in the circular economy area. Das Forschungsprojekt "DigitalRessourcen" hat die Ressourcenintensität und die Treibhausgasemissionen der digitalen Transformation in Deutschland sowohl auf Mikro- als auch auf Makroebene analysiert. In zehn Fallstudien (Mikroebene) wurde die Ressourcenintensität digitaler Anwendungen nach der Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) Methodik berechnet. Auf Makroebene wurden für die IKT-Branche der Rohstoffkonsum RMC (raw material consumption), der Rohstoffeinsatz RMI (raw material input) und der CO2-Fußabdruck der Digitalisierung in Deutschland für die Jahre 2000-2020 berechnet sowie sieben Szenarien für die Jahre 2020-2050 modelliert.

This book presents the first comprehensive study of Iran's complex relationship with Africa during the late Pahlavi era. While many studies of Iran's foreign relations during the Cold War present Iranian policy as fully aligned with the United States, Robert Steele reveals Iran as an independent actor capable of forging its own path, and shows that Africa was central to Iran's economic policy and security strategy during the reign of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. Africa was where the shah sought allies to balance the radicalism of Nasser, often through Iranian aid, customers for Iranian oil and potential sources of uranium. Bolstered by the British withdrawal from the Persian Gulf in 1971 and the oil price hike of 1973, Steele also shows how the shah saw an opportunity for his Iran to play a leading role in the Indian Ocean, revealing the central place of Africa in Iran's global strategy.
