This book was prepared with the purpose of facilitating the understanding of a relevant dimension of the contemporary metamorphosis of the world of work: the emerging, complex, heterogeneous, dynamic and blurred constellation of work activities mediated by digital platforms. This specific variety of process digitization is designated here by the name digitrab, an acronym for digital work.

Songs like Chico Fininho, by Rui Veloso and the Banda Sonora, and Cavalos de Corrida, by the group UHF, were the first hits of the "Portuguese rock boom", an expression referring to the first moment of great commercial success for rock repertoire recorded and published in Portugal. At the beginning of the 1980s, "Portuguese rock" was central to the consolidation of a "modern" and cosmopolitan youth identity that increasingly identified with habits and lifestyles from the Anglo-American cultural universe. The intensification of the editorial commitment to this repertoire led to the emergence of new groups, record producers, sound companies and artist agencies, as well as the reconfiguration of the characteristics of various bands that sought to align themselves with the phenomenon, including the growing use of the Portuguese language, an aspect that until then had often been disregarded in the context of rock music. This book analyses the main changes that took place in rock practices in Portugal during the second half of the 1970s and early 1980s, looking at the links between the various music industries and the role of their agents as active participants in shaping the activity of the groups and their respective repertoires.
Powerful narratives describe Latin American nations as fundamentally mestizo. These narratives have made it difficult to recognize racism in the region, but recent multiculturalist turns have increased recognition of black and indigenous cultures and identities. Multiculturalism can focus on issues of identity and visibility and address unconcerned forms of racism, but it can also divert attention from structural racism and racialized inequality, and thus constrain broader anti-racist initiatives. In addition, multiple understandings of how racism and anti-racism are inserted in projects of social transformation make racism a complex and multifaceted issue. The seven essays in Contra oracismo investigate actors in Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador and Mexico who go beyond the politics of recognition to address structural inequalities and build common ground with other marginalized groups. The organizations in this study advocate an approach to social structural transformation that promotes alliances, is inclusive, and is inspired by a radical imagination.
Europe, as the title of this collective book indicates, is a project under construction and David Sassoli, who is honored here, one of its most striking and memorable builders. European construction, despite all the deviations and hesitations that distinguish every single genuine human situation, has been based on a set of values that represent our own identity, in the full recognition of all the differences that simultaneously nourish it. Culture has progressively played a major role in this lasting European undertaking. In this chapter, by honoring a man who hoped for a better spiritual condition for Europe, we reassess one of the main instruments for establishing a cultural path in Europe: the European Capital of Culture (ECOC) project. The record and the tone of the following pages is far beyond the usual scope of mere description. Guided by the inspiring example of Sassoli, we face up to suggest a set of measures that will allow the ECOC action to fully meet its purpose, thus contributing to make the cultural option in Europe truly irreversible.
The poems and short stories here presented represent a tribute to David Sassoli and aim to reflect on the present and future time of Europe and on the European values defended by Sassoli.
One of David Sassoli's most outstanding initiatives was the Conference on the Future of Europe, concluded in 2022, which aimed to promote the European construction based on the voices of citizens. Given the Europe's historical relevance in the development of science and technology and my own European experience, I comment on this Sassoli's "political testament", highlighting three major challenges for Europe and arguing that, in addition to science and technology, the future of the European Union must be based on the values he espoused.
David Sassoli has best interpreted the great Italian tradition of Europeanism, which had in Giuseppe Mazzini, Vincenzo Gioberti, Altiero Spinelli and Ernesto G. Rossi, the highest and most concrete theoretical and political expressions of the contemporary age. Europe means democracy, therefore freedom, social justice, solidarity among the peoples and within the peoples that make up the European Union. It means building and looking upwards towards peace.
Drawing on David Sassoli's inspiring vision, we propose a reflection on Europe as a utopian project with ancient rootedness. This project's uniqueness is marked by its unfinished state, always requiring the impetus of renewed hope. The European Union has to be constantly updating and deepening itself in order to survive. In the conclusion we observe how Europe has been a utopian goal of progress for the countries that comprise it, as is the paradigmatic case of Portugal.
In his last speech as President of the European Parliament, on 16 December 2022, addressed to the heads of state of the European Union and entitled "Europe must show allegiance to its citizens", David Sassoli underlines the importance of thinking about the Europe of the future. Bearing in mind the history and memory of the continent, the roots of the Euroean culture and its long traditions of humanistic and scientific knowledge, he presents three axes of development - innovation, protection and dissemination - for a Europe that must be thought of as a project, dynamic, hopeful, young spirited and faithful to its humanist and democratic basis.
You will love the next as you love yourself was the motto of life and work of David Sassoli, born communicator, who understanded that thought art we fight for any United and democratic Europe who innovates, protects and enlights. Six plastic artist understood his message and translated into different languages prolonging his plea.
