The collection moves through a diagnosis of misinformation and its impacts on democracy and civic societies, the 'mainstreaming' of conspiracy theory, the impacts of misinformation on health and science, and the increasing significance of data visualization. Following these diagnoses, the handbook moves to responses from two communities of practice -- the world of journalism and the field of media literacy.--

The effects of climate change on the one hand, and government promises to achieve sustainable development on the other, are only two examples of the factors driving businesses to incorporate sustainability into their business strategies. International organizations and researchers alike contend that incorporating sustainability into business is only feasible when governance also considers environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues. Therefore, corporate governance is attracting more and more attention from investors and various stakeholders. On 23 February 2022, the European Commission adopted a proposal for a Directive on corporate sustainability due diligence. The aim of this Directive is to foster sustainable and responsible corporate behaviour and to anchor human rights and environmental considerations in companies' operations and corporate governance. Drawing on the theoretical framework of corporate governance and an analysis of the latest and most important literature on corporate governance and sustainability, this book offers essential insights, particularly in light of the Sustainable Corporate Governance Directive and Due Diligence Directive.

Delving into a traditionally underexplored period, this book focuses on the treatment of Greek Jews under the dictatorship of Ioannis Metaxas in the years leading up to the Second World War. Almost 86% of Greek Jews died in the Holocaust, leading many to think this was because of Metaxas and his fascist ideology. However, the situation in Greece was much more complicated; in fact, Metaxas in his policies often attempted to quash anti-Semitism. The Fourth of August Regime and Greek Jewry, 1936-1941 explores how the Jews fit (and did not fit) into Metaxas's vision for Greece. Drawing on unpublished archival sources and Holocaust survivor testimonies, this book presents a ground-breaking contribution to Greek history, the history of Greek anti-Semitism, and sheds light on attitudes towards Jews during the interwar period. "Bringing together different strands of research on Middle Eastern Diasporas, this handbook sheds light on diverse approaches to investigating diaspora groups in different national contexts. Asking how diasporans forge connections and means of belonging, the analyses provided shift the reader's gaze to the multiple forms of belonging to both peoples and places. Rather than seeing diasporans as marginalised groups of people longing to return to a homeland, analyses in this volume demonstrates that Middle East diasporans, like other diasporas and citizens alike, are people who respond to major social change and transformations. Those we count as Middle Eastern diasporans, both in the region and beyond, contribute to transnational social spaces, and new forms of cultural expressions. Chapters included cover how diasporas have been formed, the ways that diasporans make and remake homes, the expressive terrains where diasporas are contested, how class, livelihoods and mobility inflect diasporic practices, the emergence of diasporic sensibilities and finally, scholarship that draws our attention to the plurilocality of Middle East diasporas. Offering a rich compilation of case studies, this handbook will appeal to students of Middle Eastern Studies, International Relations, and Sociology, as well as being of interest to policymakers, government departments, and NGOs"--
This book introduces entrepreneurship as a concept that is popular in the general media but also in academic study. What is evident is due to its positive and negative connotations in society. This book identifies that it is important to debate the topic of entrepreneurship in order to understand its multi-faceted nature. This edited book includes a number of chapters that discuss multidimensional perspectives from an international perspective. This book emphasizes the geo-political frontiers related to entrepreneurship based on current debates, which includes recent global changes. This book also challenges the debatable as to whether entrepreneurship should be examined at the individual, firm, regional, or industry level. This book goes further to demonstrate that this depends on the type and nature of the study. Therefore, it is better to consider entrepreneurship in a multidimensional way that incorporates different levels of analysis. This book shows each level of analysis that can be considered from a geo-political perspective. This means including an overview of the cultural factors that influence entrepreneurial behavior. In this way, this book helps readers to understand how and why geography and politics influence entrepreneurial action.

In this handbook, a group of 40 scholars and practitioners from some 30 countries takes a critical look at the contemporary practice of diplomacy. Many assume diplomacy evolves naturally, and that state- and non-state actors are powerless to make significant changes. But Diplomacys methods, its key institutions and conventions were agreed more than six decades ago. None take account of the opportunities and vulnerabilities presented by the Internet. Diplomacy is now a neglected global issue. The COVID pandemic and the invasion of Ukraine have highlighted some of the problems of diplomatic dysfunction. Beyond identifying current problems diplomacy is facing, the book also seeks to identify some practical options for reform and innovation. How might a process of reform be agreed and implemented? What role might the United Nations, regional organizations and Big Tech play? How can new norms of diplomatic behavior and methods be established in a multipolar, digital world where diplomacy is seen as less and less effective? Paul Webster Hare is Senior Lecturer in International Relations at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies, Boston University, USA. He was a diplomat for 30 years and British ambassador to Cuba from 2001 to 2004. Juan Luis Manfredi-Sanchez is Prince of Asturias Distinguished Visiting Professor at the School of Foreign Service, Georgetown University, USA, and Professor at the University of Castilla-La Mancha, Spain. This book takes a fresh stance and views EI and AI as services that are provided by service employees and machines as organisational offerings to customers. As emotional intelligence (EI) and artificial intelligence (AI) have been cited to have broad effects on individuals, businesses and beyond, this book is focused on the organisational context, specifically how they affect employees and customers from a marketing perspective. The stance in this book is consistent with the conceptualisation of a service. This book holds that intelligence in businesses must turn into organisational assets to manifest their values. Further, this book explores this service-dominant logic era, and compared to tangible products, service plays a key role in organisational performance and customer relationship with the organisation. Intelligence exhibited either by human or machine is not a tangible product, but can be utilised as a service to assist employees in performing tasks and delivering services as well as facilitating business transaction and customer experience. This book is structured as follows. Chapters 2 and 3 demystify emotional and artificial intelligence, from different perspectives, including conceptualisations, the history and evolution of the concepts, how they function and where they can apply to. These discussions help readers understand what exactly these two intelligences are. Chapters 4 and 5 analyse how emotional intelligence is related to employees and customers, respectively, with a focus on service organisations. Chapters 68 are dedicated to anatomising AI and how it is operationalised as a service to influence employees and customers. Specifically, viewing AI as a service, Chapter 6 examines the impact of AI service quality and how it is related to employee service quality. Chapter 7 analyses the influence of AI service quality on customers. Based on the discussion in Chapters 6 and 7, Chapter 8 is extended to develop a scale to measure such AI service, named AI service quality. The last three chapters of this book integrate EI and AI to analyse their respective impacts on employees and customers. Chapter 9 proposes EI as a moderator of AI, whereas Chapter 10 proposes AI as a moderator of EI. Chapter 11 employs service profit chain to integrate EI and AI in the chain relationship to understand their effects on both employees and customers. This chapter broadly covers the service industry with a focus on tourism and hospitality sector. The discussion on the impact of EI and AI is complemented with empirical studies conducted in tourism or hospitality context to address their effects in these sectors.

As the air travel industry begins to emerge from the COVID-19 restrictions, new research must be undertaken to survey the changing business landscape. This book examines existing air travel literature, illustrates the current theories in the field, and suggests research methods for integrating them in fieldwork. The book begins by surveying the landscape of air travel research and examining key theoretical frameworks such as grounded theory, institutional theory, prospect theory, and the theory of planned behavior. It then explores when qualitative and quantitative research methods are appropriate for use in air travel research, and how they can be applied successfully. Gathered contributors from Southeast Asia and the Middle East highlight some of the latest issues, including the impacts of COVID-19 on airfreight, airline catering, and passenger perceptions of security and safety. Future directions for research are also proposed. This book will appeal to researchers and postgraduate students in the fields of air transport or aviation management, tourism marketing, and consumer behavior.
This book analyses the dynamics of Indian stock market with a special emphasis during the period following emergence of Covid-19. Coming from the instability in stock market following Covid-19, it delves deeper into the dynamics and unfolds the causal relationship between various economic fundamentals and the stock prices. Observing short-term herding in the stock market following Covid-19, the book's finding suggests that investors in the Indian stock market made investment choices irrationally during Covid-19 crisis periods. It also showcases how the stock market became inefficient following the emergence of pandemic and did not follow the fundamentals. Interestingly, the findings suggest no relationship between stock returns and real economic activities in India. The format of presentation makes the book well suited not only for students, academics, policy makers and investors in the stock markets, but also people engaged or interested in business and finance. The book would thus be of interest to both specialists and the laity. Analysis contained in this book will help different readership groups in different ways. Researchers from economics and finance disciplines will be able to learn about frontiers in the theoretical paradigms discussed in the book; advanced econometric techniques applied in the book will also be useful for their own research. The macroeconomic insights, and insights from behavioural economics, can expand the knowledge of corporate sector, useful in making real life decisions. Finally, it will help policy makers, like SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India), to formulate appropriate regulatory policies so as to minimize possibility of speculative bubbles as experienced during the pandemic period in the Indian stock markets.
