War in Syria, difficult political transition in Egypt, Israeli-Palestinian tensions are among the key elements of this issue. These convulsions in the Middle East actually borrow from long history. But this story is what it is because it deploys to a space of high strategic value. For more than a century, the Middle East has been suffering negative counterparts from its supposed geographical rents: the Suez Canal, which has made Egypt a route to trade, and hydrocarbon discoveries have been a major factor in this turbulent history. Even more entrenched in the long times of historeand because the neolithic revolution takes place there, agriculture in the Middle East is less under media fires. However, not only is it very real today, but it is also at the heart of the rivalry between players in territories (and in relation to territories); in other words, agriculture can be analysed from a geopolitical perspective as redefined by Yves Lacoste. Not only does it not only suffer conflicts, but it is also an important backbone, in any case in its relationship with the land and water resources it mobilises. More than that, it can be seen as a privileged instrument in certain geopolitical crises. The intersection between conflict and agriculture thus enables us to highlight a number of geopolitical functions of agriculture, which can be observed in other regions but are very prominent in the Middle East: feeder, horogenetic, spatial, political, identity and hydro-political functions are all angles of observation of an agricultural reality that escapes a strictly economic reading. This thesis examines American films which were made in response to US military involvement in the Middle East, since the beginning of the 2000s. It will seek to prove that these films are different than those made in the United States in response to previous conflicts. The historical study of American war cinema shows that it has undergone a process of evolution - from a cinema which views American wars as those of necessity, to a cinema which views American wars as wars of choice. Lately, it has gone even further than that – birthing films which present American wars as events caused by the American society, in order to fulfill the needs of the people who head it - fighting-addicted American men. This process can be said to have expanded the subjects dealt with by the American war cinema.Thus, the cinema about the Iraq War is much more poignant than representations of past wars, in its messages about the connection between American society and its militarism. International audience ; In recent decades, large-scale excavations in Military Orders' fortresses in Israel and to a lesserextent in Syria have led to the discovery and identification of masonry structures for the manufactureand consumption of daily food in garrisons; the examination of these structures - kitchens,bakeries, refectories – brings new insights in the daily life of those fortresses. This article will focuson the remains uncovered in castles of the Hospitallers' Order (Beit Guvrin, Belvoir, Arsur in Israel,Margat in Syria), which revealed the most elements. After a summary description of each ofthem, this paper will discuss the culinary habits of the brethren, by crossing the architecture withthe texts. ; Durant les dernières décennies, la réalisation de fouilles de grande ampleur dans les grandes forteresses, en Israël et dans une moindre mesure en Syrie, ont permis la dé-couverte et l'identification de structures maçonnées destinées à la confection et à la consommation de la nourriture quotidienne des garnisons ; l'examen de ces structures-cuisines, boulangeries, réfectoires-autorise des constatations qui renouvellent la connaissance approfondie de ces forteresses. On se concentrera, dans le présent article, sur les restes mis au jour dans des châteaux de l'ordre des Hospitaliers (Bethgibelin, Bel-voir, Arsur en Israël, Margat en Syrie), qui ont révélé le plus d'éléments. International audience ; Since the beginning of the Syrian uprising in March 2011, more than ten million Syrians have been forced to flee their homes, and among them some three million have sought asylum in the neighbouring countries. Even in dealing with the purely humanitarian aspects of this unprecedented exodus, the international community has been often unable to demonstrate unity of effort. Moreover, the long-term consequences of the Syrian exodus on the reshaping of the geopolitical order in the Middle East remain largely overlooked in the international debate. Yet, the principal host countries, mainly preoccupied by their own stability, had no choice but to readjust their foreign policy in an attempt to capitalise on the Syrian presence. At the same time, this demographic shift has spawned its own dynamics: by strengthening traditional alliances – local or transnational – or, on the contrary, bringing together previously antagonist forces. The purpose of this contribution is to explore this ambivalence. ; Depuis le déclenchement du soulèvement syrien en mars 2011, plus de dix millions de Syriens ont été arrachés à leurs foyers, dont quelque trois millions ont trouvé refuge dans les pays voisins. Malgré ce déracinement sans précédent depuis la Seconde Guerre mondiale, la communauté internationale demeure incapable de recouvrer une relative unité, à tout le moins autour d'un compromis sur le plan humanitaire.
