This article reflects upon the formulation and content of Britain's Africa policy since New Labour assumed office in 1997. It starts by analysing the different actors involved in making Britain's Africa policy before examining how successfully New Labour has met its three stated objectives of promoting peace, prosperity and democracy on the continent. This final section explores Britain's response to the Nepad as the current vehicle through which Blair's government hopes to achieve its objectives in Africa. (Polit afr/DÜI)
