Les traductions de urbanisme et town planning en arabe (XXe s.) Exploration à partir des cas du Liban, de l'Egypte, de la Syrie

Abstract

Ce texte a été écrit en 2004-2005. ; International audience ; One can notice strange differences in Egypt, Lebanon and Syria in the translation of the words urbanisme and town planning along the XXth century. In this paper wa argue that these differences can be related to the various circulations of ideas and practices in the field of planning. The colonial legacy, the specificities of French and British and American planning traditions and the political choices (free trade vs collectivism) in the concerned countries are among the factors we study in order to understand these differences. ; Les traductions en arabe des mots urbanisme et town planning, qui montrent tout au long du XXème siècle, des différences notables entre l'Egypte, la Syrie et le Liban, sont pris comme indicateurs des circulations de notions et de pratiques dans le champ de l'aménagement urbain. Les héritages coloniaux, les spécificités de l'urbanisme français ou britanniques et les choix politiques (libéral ou collectiviste) dans chaque pays sont analysés pour rendre compte de ces différences.
