Abstract

"On October 28, 1999, leaders from industry, government, labor, professional and trade organizations, and academia met in Detroit to share best practices for preventing work-related hearing impairment. The symposium highlighted an array of proven strategies and new advancements for protecting workers' hearing. The symposium was sponsored by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), the National Hearing Conservation Association (NHCA), and the Occupational and Environmental Health Sciences Department of Wayne State University. Additional support for this program was provided by the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the Michigan Industrial Hygiene Society, the American Industrial Hygiene Association, the National Safety Council, the Institute of Noise Control Engineering, and the Douglas A.
