Abstract

RESUMEN: Uruguay tiene una larga tradición democrática unida a la del desarrollo de un Estado de bienestar instaurado a principios del siglo XX y prolongado hasta la década de 1960, cuando el sistema entró en crisis. En este ensayo se analiza el contenido utópico de esa democracia, sus carencias, la crisis, el proceso de su decadencia, el período de la dictadura (1973-1984) y la nostalgia del «país que fue» que ha marcado la política del restablecimiento de la institucionalidad en 1985 hasta nuestros días.ABSTRACT: Uruguay has a long tradition of democracy that is associated to the Welfare State built at the beginning of the XX Century. In the sixties started a period of crisis and decadence, which had its worst moment during the period of the dictatorship (1973-1984).
