Joint Forest Management in India: Present Status & Suggestions for Successful Implementation

Abstract
The problem of forest conservation and protection can't be separated from the local people living in and around the villages of forests and forest dwellers itself too. Local communities have symbiotic relationship with forest and should be accepted as a partner in the forestry development efforts. JFM in India has emerged as an important intervention in the management of forest resources. This research paper attempts to analyse the impact of JFM and an attempt to forge a partnership between the forestry department and local communities based on common management objectives. JFM programme has been adopted by the Indian Government for the sustainable development of forests and betterment of livelihood of peoples living in and around the forest. Issues that are very useful and essential for successful implementation of JFM Programme in the forests areas have been discussed in this article.
