Biology and losses of the chestnut moth, Laspeyresia (= Cydia) splendana (Hübner), in northeast of Portugal
Abstract
In Portugal chestnut tree (Castanea sativa Miller) has an economic, social and landscape importance. Trás-os-Montes, in the Northeast of the country, is the first Portuguese fruit producer region with 80% of the production. The fruits produced in this region are of high quality, that was been recognized by the European Union with Protected Denomination of Origin "Castanha da Terra Fria ", however, every year the attack of pests is a problem that . cause serious losses. The chestnut moth Laspeyresia (= Cydia) splendana Hubner is the most serious pest of chestnut fruit in several countries.
