Abstract

En aquest treball es presenten els resultats de dues intervencions arqueològiques realitzades en 2019 en el jaciment d'O Castelo, a València do Sil (Orense), així com una síntesi analítica de tota la informació disponible sobre el lloc. Es tracta d'un assentament fortificat que, gràcies a l'anàlisi estratigràfica i les datacions radiocarbòniques, podem situar en els moments finals de l'imperi romà en el nord-oest peninsular. Així, s'interpreta l'enclavament com un espai de control del territori en un moment de gran transformació política i econòmica. Les diferents excavacions dutes a terme en el lloc han permès documentar dos entorns domèstics que ofereixen una important informació sobre l'organització social dels seus habitants. El treball conclou amb unes reflexions interpretatives sobre el context històric en el qual s'insereixen aquest tipus d'assentaments en el nord peninsular. ; In this paper, we present the results of two recent archaeological interventions carried out at the site of O Castelo, in Valencia do Sil (Ourense), together with an analytic synthesis of all prior available data. This is a fortified settlement which, thanks to stratigraphic analyses and radiocarbon analysis, it can be dated within the final moments of the Roman Empire in northwestern Iberia. Therefore, we interpret the site as a territorial control nucleus in a period of great political and economic changes. Different excavations have uncovered two large domestic areas which offer quite important information on the social organization of its inhabitants.
