PATRONYMIC IDENTIFICATION -YCH/-OVYCH(-EVYCH) AS A COMPONENT OF A THREE- COMPONENT ANTHROPONYMIC FORMULA ;

Abstract

Social and historical changes inevitably lead to changes in the anthroponymic system. The object of our study is evolution of patronymic identification of Ukrainians, the model of -ych, -ovych/-evych, that recently as an element of codified traditional three-component anthroponymic formula (TAF) undergoes changes under the influence of ideological and social and historical circumstances. Basing on a wide source material mainly of the business style, it was investigated that during ХIV–ХVIII centuries the two-component anthroponymic formula (AF) of the model personal name+patronym (in particular the model -ych, -ovych/-evych, that was completely prevalent during ХIV–ХVI centuries in different territories of Ukraine), personal name+byname was the centerpiece of Ukrainian anthroponymycon. At the same time, the three-component AF, having certain social restrictions concerning property status of the person in ХIV–ХVI centuries, in the next period (ХVII–ХVIII centuries) expands its functioning due to the loss of social restrictions.Although this AF is externally identical to official modern identification, in the period of under-codification of anthroponymic system two components, apart from the name, were not always hereditary names and had no established positioning order. Thus, the three-component AF is a) a continuation of Old Russian traditions, b) as compared to Russian language, in Old Ukrainian language the patronym with -ych did not have any social restrictions, c) this tradition has not been interrupted despite the dominance of two-component AF, d) territories of Ukraine, where three-component AF prevailed have never been under the influence of Moscow neither politically, nor linguistically and, on the contrary, were influenced by Poland – so they are not the consequence of influence of Moscow anthroponymic system. Keywords: anthroponymic formula (AF), three-component and two-component AF, pathronymic identification -ych, -ovych/-evych, sociolinguistic context.
