THE SOCIAL STATUS OF ETHNIC GROUPS AND ITS MEASURING ; СОЦІАЛЬНИЙ СТАТУС ЕТНІЧНИХ ГРУП ТА ЙОГО ВИМІРИ

Abstract

The article considers status of ethnic groups as a multidimensional description of theirposition in society. Considerable attention is paid to the problem of political and legal statusof ethnic groups, particularly, to the consequences of the institutional construction ofdifferences between ethnic majority and ethnic minority. Representation of ethnic groupsbelonging to the different levels of social hierarchy is examined through manifestations oftheir status in the system of social stratification. Main causes of social inequality of ethnicgroups are analysed. It is shown that the position of ethnic group in the in the system ofinterethnic relations is a specific measurement of ethnic groups status. It is determined bythe degree of desired social distance in a situation of direct contacts with the representativesof different ethnic groups and characterizes subjective attitude dominating in massconsciousness towards each of them.Key words: social status, political and legal status, status of ethnic group in the systemof social inequality, status of a group within a system of interethnic relations. ; Cтатус етнічних груп розглянуто як багатоаспектну характеристику їхньогостановища в суспільстві. Значну увагу приділено проблемі політико-правового статусуетнічних груп, зокрема, наслідкам інституційно закріпленої диференціації на етнічнубільшість та етнічні меншини. Представленість етнічних груп на різних шабляхсоціальної ієрархії розглянуто як показник їхнього статусу у системі соціальноїстратифікації. Проаналізовано головні причини соціальної нерівності етнічних груп.Доведено, що специфічним для етнічних груп виміром статусу є їхнє положення всистемі міжетнічних відносин, що визначене розмірами бажаної соціальної дистанції вразі безпосередніх контактів й характеризує суб'єктивне відношення до кожної з груп,яке домінує в масовій свідомості.Ключові слова: соціальний статус, політико-правовий статус, статус етнічної групиу системі соціального розшарування, статус групи в системі міжетнічних відносин.
