Abstract

Dealing with 'global fields of action' is one of the scientific and practical core tasks of the Center for Applied Cultural Studies. For this volume, a focus was chosen from the complex range of topics: globalization of the media, political conflicts and human rights issues, social, economic and political networking opportunities, questions of sociopolitical and cultural responsibility in times of economic scarcity as well as the internationalization of universities as a vehicle for international understanding and Opportunity to gain skills. The question is what role the media play as a mediator of culture. What cultural identities have developed? What do human rights mean in times of terrorist violence? How important is 'networking' and which educational policy challenges arise from the increasing internationalization of universities? The gathered authors discuss the respective global status quo, the development prognoses and needs in an interdisciplinary and international manner.
