Politics beyond the State: forgetting the violence? ; La política más allá del Estado: ¿una omisión de la violencia?

Abstract

This article deals with the relation between politics, the political and violence. Western political theory has historically tended to reduce politics to the State and to dissolve violence in political ends. This tradition was broken by Weber and Schmitt. The conceptual distinction between politics and the political is consolidated in contemporary political theory, but it does not resolve some of Weber and Schmitt's insufficiencies. One is the relationship between the political and violence, which is analyzed in Lefort, Rancière and Bourdieu in this work. We can formulate two questions on this: is it not true that conceiving politics as something not reduced to the State, 1) ends up omitting violence which is also present in the political, as if the only violence were that of the State?; and 2) downplays the monopoly of legitimate violence as a characteristic trait of politics? ; Este artículo se propone analizar la relación entre la política, lo político y la violencia. La teoría política occidental ha tendido históricamente a reducir la política al Estado y a disolver la violencia en los fines de la política. Esta tradición fue quebrada por Weber y Schmitt. La distinción conceptual entre la política y lo político se ha consolidado en la teoría política contemporánea, pero no resuelve algunas insuficiencias de la reflexión de Weber y Schmitt. Una es la relación entre "lo político" y la violencia, la cual es analizada en Lefort, Rancière y Bourdieu en este trabajo. Se pueden plantear dos preguntas al respecto: concebir la política como algo no reducido al Estado: 1) ¿no acaba omitiendo la violencia que también está presente en lo político, como si la única violencia fuera la del Estado?; y 2) ¿no acaba desatendiendo el monopolio de la violencia legítima como rasgo característico de la política?
