Das rechte Geschlecht. Geschlechterkonstruktionen in extrem rechten Medien und deren Relevanz für völkisches Denken

Abstract

"The Right Gender" For a long time, right-wing extremism - mainly due to its dimensions of violence - has been perceived as a mainly male phenomenon. It is only since the 1990s that scientific examinations have also considered gender sensitive perspectives. For a long time since then, research has mainly focused on right-wing women and their self-conceptions. With considerable delay, right-wing extremism researchers began to discuss the category of masculinity within the extreme right. A concise discourse analysis about the extreme right's gender constructions does hitherto not exist.In this thesis, central publication organs of various current spectrums of the extreme right are examined for gender constructions. In doing so, the gender political discourse of the contemporary extreme right, on which subject positions can constitute themselves is analyzed. According to Michel Foucault's discourse theory, this hypothesis assumes that discourses are intertwined with power in a sense that they transport knowledge that feeds collective and individual consciousness, which again forms the default applications for subjectivities.Thus, this thesis is methodologically based on Siegfried Jäger's Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA). This qualitative method of empirical social research does not only consider the knowledge, the field of what is sayable (Sagbarkeitsfeld), but also captures the strategies by which this field of what is sayable is widened or narrowed. In accordance with CDA, every newspaper examined in this study is submitted to a structural analysis describing the field of what is sayable. An ensuing detailed analysis brings out the discoursive strategies. The various results are compared in synoptic analyses and eventually submitted to a critique. After a definition of the field of study, the extreme right, which is determined along the ideologemes of ethnic ("völkisch") nationalism, the different spectrums of the extreme right are investigated.
