Los factores olvidados del VIH, una mirada crítica. / Forgotten factors of HIV: a critical view

Abstract

El Virus de Inmuno Deficiencia Humana (VIH) llegó a Chile en la década de los ochenta. Desde esa época, es que las tasa de notificados VIH positivo (VIH+) y personas que han muerto físicamente por el virus, sigue en aumento a pesar de los esfuerzos llevados a cabo tanto por las entidades de gobierno como por la sociedad civil. Las cuantificaciones realizadas por los organismos de salud no contemplan la muerte social que sufren y han sufrido las personas diagnosticadas, las cuales, deben enfrentar en la mayoría de los casos: soledad, abandono e incluso mal trato por parte de profesionales que trabajan en la temática. Lo anterior se contiene en el desconocimiento del fenómeno y por tanto, se incurre en malas intervenciones. Lo anterior refleja acciones de prevención inefectivas en cuanto a la transmisión del retrovirus y por tanto, queda en evidencia que se necesita mayor trabajo en la lucha contra la epidemia. The Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) arrived in Chile in the early eighties. Since then, the rate of new HIV infections and related deaths due to the virus continues to rise despite government and civil efforts. Data gathered by respective health organizations does not account for the social suffering experienced by those that have been diagnosed with HIV. In most cases, this includes: loneliness, abandonment and even poor treatment by others within the healthcare field. This is due to ignorance and results in poor interactions. Further, this reflects in the ineffective preventative actions for the transmission of retroviruses. It is therefore evident that better work needs to be undertaken in order to fight against the epidemic.
