Desarrollo y medio ambiente en España: algunas consecuencias directas emanadas del hundimiento del Prestige

Abstract

Una sociedad como la nuestra debe estar preocupada y ocupada en prevenir mejor que en actuar y enfocada al principio de «quien puede contaminar debe contribuir a evitar ese riesgo»; tiene, al tiempo, que asegurar a todos no sólo un marco legislativo sino un mayor control, un esfuerzo inversor en tecnología innovadora, ecológica, de bajos consumos en su producción, aplicando buenas prácticas ambientales en su hacer y otro en el cumplimiento de la normativa y los acuerdos. Sobre todo cuando debemos hacer frente a catástrofes como la provocada por el hundimiento del Prestige. Solo así será posible que las intenciones se conviertan en realidad. El uso del término «bandera de conveniencia» es perverso porque lo correcto sería denominarlo «banderas de conveniencia económica y fiscal», nunca de conveniencia social y ecológica. ; The societies we live in should be more concerned with prevention rather than with acting. A society like ours should focus on the basic principle whereby «whoever might pollute should contribute to meliorate such risk». Sustainable Governments must ensure citizens consistent legal frameworks together with tighter control measures. Greater investment efforts are required in innovative technologies: more ecological, consuming fewer raw materials throughout production and applying sensible environmental processes. The need of such investment efforts becomes more evident facing the induced hazards such as those caused by the wreck of the oil carrier «Prestige», a year ago now. Only thus intentions will turn into facts. The term «Convenience Flag» is outrageous since the correct term would be «Taxation and Economical Convenience Flags», with no social or ecological convenience at all.
