Studying migration from the perspective of Social Anthropology: a research about the social construction of otherness in the educational context ; Estudiar migraciones desde la Antropología Social: una investigación sobre la construcción social de la alteridad en contextos educativos

Abstract

This paper is a study of the migratory phenomenon from the point of view of Social Anthropology. Focusing on the processes involved in the construction of otherness, we analyze how the difference towards the foreign immigrant population is constructed, and more specifically towards the foreign immigrants in formal educational institutions. Our starting point is the idea that discourse (social and political) plays an important role in the construction of difference. This is why we start by analyzing it in order to arrive at what we think is happening: the reproduction of old social inequalities in new segments of the population ; El presente texto es una apuesta por estudiar los fenómenos migratorios desde la Antropología Social. Centrándonos en los procesos de construcción de la alteridad, abordamos cómo desde el ámbito de lo educativo se está contribuyendo a la construcción de la diferencia con respecto a la población inmigrante extranjera, y en concreto con respecto al segmento de esta población que se encuentra en las instituciones educativas formales. Partimos de que el discurso (social y político) juega un papel enorme en la construcción social de la diferencia, y por lo tanto, partimos del análisis del mismo para de-construir lo que entendemos se está produciendo: la perpetuación de viejas desigualdades sociales con nuevos segmentos de población
