Abstract

The article attempts to determine the idea of religion in Hobbes and its political importance. Leviathan (I, 12) is analyzed. The natural and psychological origin of religion among the gentiles is mentioned and also the supremacy of christianity as a revealed religion. First of all, the criticism of Hobbes of pagan religion as pure superstition is reviewed. Secondly, the criticism of the language of christian theology as absurd. And, at the end, the view of christianity of Hobbes, according to wich there are only two fundamental precepts: To believe that Jesus is Christ and to obey the law. With this, religión is reduced only to the obedience of subjects to their sovereign ; El artículo intenta determinar la idea de religión de Hobbes y su importancia política. Con este propósito se analiza el Leviatán (I, 12). Se hace mención del origen natural y psicológico de la religión en los gentiles y de la supremacía del cristianismo como religión revelada. Se revisa primero la crítica de Hobbes a la religión pagana como pura superstición. Y, segundo, la crítica al lenguaje de la teología cristiana como absurdo. Y se termina con la visión del cristianismo de Hobbes en la cual hay sólo dos preceptos fundamentales: Hay que creer que Jesús es el Cristo y obedecer la ley. Con lo cual la religión se reduce en este caso a la pura obediencia de los súbditos a su soberano
