Civil Resistance in Suarez: The Common Good and the Considered Use of Popular Violence ; Resistencia civil en Suárez: Bien común y uso ponderado de la violencia popular

Abstract

The aim of Suarezian political theory is to achieve the common good in the facticity of the concrete human reality. From this perspective, it is possible to defend that the acceptance of political resistance involves, ultimately, that this resistance is the last limit to the political power. Furthermore, that point of view means clearing the ways for a thoughtful, proportional, and cautious use of violence. In short, violence operates as a factical instrument of self-defence searching concrete common good. ; El motor de la teoría política suareciana es la consecución del bien común inserto en la facticidad de la realidad humana concreta. Desde ahí cabe sostener que la admisión de la resistencia al poder político supone, en última instancia, erigir esta última como límite de aquel y abrir la puerta a un uso ponderado, proporcional y precavido de la violencia. En definitiva, esta opera como un instrumento fáctico de legítima defensa en la búsqueda del bien común concreto.
