Historiografía, memoria, silencios y conmemoraciones: la Valencia capital de la República (1936-1937) ; Historiography, memory, silences and commemorations: Valencia, capital of the Second Spanish Republic (1936-1937)

Abstract

Durante la tarde-noche del 6 de noviembre de 1936 comenzó el traslado a Valencia del gobierno republicano desde un Madrid asediado por las tropas sublevadas. La ciudad se convirtió así, y durante un año, en sede del gobierno legítimo y capital, en la práctica, de la República española. En el presente artículo se analiza cómo se ha abordado todo ello desde dos perspectivas diferentes, aunque estrechamente interconectadas: la historiografía y la memoria pública. Se centra en los años más recientes, aunque se establecen también conclusiones sobre la producción historiográfica y las políticas de memoria en torno a esta cuestión en las cuatro últimas décadas. Finalmente, se aporta una reflexión sobre la influencia que en esos ámbitos han tenido tanto el contexto político como la conmemoración del episodio en sucesivas efemérides durante los últimos cuarenta años. ; On the evening of November 6, 1936, the Republican government began to move towards Valencia from Madrid, which was besieged by the rebellious Franco's troops. Valencia became for one year the seat of the legitimate government and actual capital of the Spanish Republic. This article analyses how this fact has been approached from two different though closely interconnected perspectives: historiography and public memory. The focus is on recent years, though the paper also draws conclusions both about historiographic production and public memory policies on this issue, in the last four decades. It also addresses the influence on historiography and public memory both of the political context and the successive commemoration events of the episode taking place over the last forty years.
