La concentración del poder económico en los Estados Unidos y sus proyecciones en América Latina

Abstract

The complex economic relations that exist between the United States and Latin American countries are, evidently, the result of a long historical evolution. The diversity of the socioeconomic structures that emerged in the two regions in the Colonial Period and in the first phase of the Industrial Revolution, as well as their geographical proximity, largely respond to the character of dependency that marks such relationships in an increasingly clear way during the 20th century. The purpose of this article is limited; we aim to answer the following question: to what extent and in what way are the recent structural modifications in the United States economy, resulting from the rapid concentration of economic power, influencing the Latin American historical process? ; Las complejas relaciones económicas que existen entre Estados Unidos y los países latinoamericanos son, evidentemente, el resultado de una larga evolución histórica. La diversidad de las estructuras socioeconómicas surgidas en las dos regiones en el período colonial y en la primera fase de la Revolución Industrial, así como la proximidad geográfica, responden en buena medida al carácter de dependencia que marca tales relaciones en forma cada vez más nítida en el siglo XX. El objetivo del presente artículo es limitado; se pretende contestar a esta pregunta: ¿hasta qué punto y en qué forma, las modificaciones estructurales recientes en la economía de los Estados Unidos, resultantes de la rápida concentración del poder económico, están influyendo en el proceso histórico latinoamericano?
