Acerca de los recursos de la iconografía regia; Felipe IV, de Rey Sol a nuevo Salomón

Abstract

En el artículo se pone de manifiesto como la iconografía de la representación de los monarcas continúa en la historia, subrayando la recurrencia a las referencias bíblicas por parte de la imaginería política .En el caso concreto de Felipe IV, se sigue la tradición de sus antepasados la utilización este instrumento en unos momentos críticos para la monarquía hispana. La utilización de elementos como el árbol de Jessé, la columna salomónica o el propio arquetipo del monarca judío, va más allá del carácter evocador de ciertas cualidades o virtudes, persiguiendo un claro objetivo político de legitimación dinástica, tópico o constante en la historia de la realeza desde al menos la Alta Edad Media. ; The article shows how the iconography of the representation of monarchs continues in history, underscoring the recurrence to biblical references by political imagery. In the specific case of Philip IV, the tradition of his ancestors is followed the use of this instrument in critical moments for the Spanish monarchy. The use of elements such as the tree of Jessé, the Solomonic column or the own archetype of the Jewish monarch, goes beyond the evocative character of certain qualities or virtues, pursuing a clear political objective of dynastic legitimation, topical or constant in the history of the royalty from at least the High Middle Ages. ; peerReviewed
