Abstract

A manifesto of the Fascist intellectuals in defense of the regime was published in April 1925. The reply of the anti-fascist intellectuals is immediate and a counter-manifesto is written by Benedetto Croce. This essay retraces the theoretical and step-by-step genesis of the anti-fascist manifesto, placing it within the frame of Croce philosophy and conception of the role of the intellectuals as the conscience of a people, a culture, which must never betray that role for a political party.
